if this is true then the roach/gallagher time factor thing cant be that bad
Yes think he works full time it must be really hard.

to be honest macklin always looked an underachiever or simply disappointing until joe trained him. gallagher seemed to have brought big changes in his boxing. what a shame. joe had john murray and macklin winning domestic titles in great performances, and macklin winning the european titles - all in a short space. i think he has more champs than someone like, say, farnell, who gets talented fighters sent to him.Wales wrote:Whilst i agree that constantly changing trainers to move sideways isnt a good move, I think mov9ing to be trained by Roach is a good move. With all due respect to joe galagher can someone tell me how many title fights his fighters have been in?
Roach is currently training the #2 (imo) p4p fighter in the world, and certainarly knows his apples. good luck to matt!
how soon is too soon to be talking about world title shots?
I dont think Farnell can be judged fairly for a few years yet.His most talented guys havent reached title level yet. Also,i dont think they are "sent to him" against their will.I would imagine they meet him,get on,maybe have a session before deciding to work together. All Farnell's lads on here speak very highly of himAutobarn wrote:to be honest macklin always looked an underachiever or simply disappointing until joe trained him. gallagher seemed to have brought big changes in his boxing. what a shame. joe had john murray and macklin winning domestic titles in great performances, and macklin winning the european titles - all in a short space. i think he has more champs than someone like, say, farnell, who gets talented fighters sent to him.Wales wrote:Whilst i agree that constantly changing trainers to move sideways isnt a good move, I think mov9ing to be trained by Roach is a good move. Then you must give Farnell credit for Crolla!Joe had him "sent"Autobarn wrote:no disrespect meant to farnell. all i mean is, farnell gets good talents, and isn't judged for not having loads of champs - yet. farnell has a rep for being a good trainer, without having thousands of champs...joe gallagher has just brought his fighters toward titles - domestic and euro - in some pretty scintillating performances, and i felt it was funny that ppl were questioning him for not having loads of champs. (and also joe murray is a world ama medallist and olympian, joe being a gallagher fighter for a long time, not one he has just taken on.)
i believe joe was hoping to take murray and macklin to, or close to, world titles this year. i believe both ARE world rated, in the santioning bodies. i know that in the last few fights, murray has stopped in 3 or 4 fighters in the EBU top 10 rankings. so obviously a big setback with macklin jumping ship (yet again!). hopefully murray can beat mezaache and close in on the katsidis fight.
have to say crolla and joe murray look well capable of winning domestic titles in the near future.

Exactly!!
not at all mate. nobody is questioning that. we are questioning will freddie give macklin 100% effort and time. because i knw gallagher sure didWales wrote:Are we honestly contemplating / debating who the better trainer is here, Freddy Roach or Joe Gallagher ? Isn't this a bit Alex fergusson or Chris Hughton?

Make a case for Joe Gallagher then... Roach may be overated, "wayyyyyy overated" but he'd still be ahead of Gallagher IMO. Like I say, no disrespect to joe, but c'mon.
Time will tell, although macklin is a grown up, and an intelligent lad, and I dont see ricky sending him there unless he feels its benefitial ...MrBoxingUK2 wrote:not at all mate. nobody is questioning that. we are questioning will freddie give macklin 100% effort and time. because i knw gallagher sure didWales wrote:Are we honestly contemplating / debating who the better trainer is here, Freddy Roach or Joe Gallagher ? No its not, AA went there for boxing training and defence - he forgot to duck.Wales wrote:MachoMan09 wrote:Freddie was brought in to improve Andrei Arlovski's boxing skills prior to his fight with Fedor Emelianenko. bit like employing him to get me up to speed for a fight with prime tyson though wasnt it. Couldve brought in the SAS and half the of royal marines and Fedor wouldve still KO'd him
Wales wrote:With all due respect my opinion has nothing at all to do with reading Freddie Roaches wikipedia page, and then Joe Gallaghers.
Pacquiao is very flawed, and yet masterful technical fighters such as Cotto, De La Hoya and Barrera could not find those flaws. Marquez, who is possibly lb4lb the best technical fighter on the planet (if not then top 3) found them, granted, but marquez is an exception, and absolute masterful boxer. And anyway, some fighters will have flaws that will never be ironed out, otherwise a perfect fighter would have been created.
7 years to get a right hand is way off the pace, c’mon DG you know as well as I do that Pacquiao’s right hand was becoming very effective form the first barrera fight back in 2002/2003. Look at the punch that ended Julio’s night on the Lewis Tyson undercard.
Thing with Macklin is he’s always been a bit of a “sleeping giant”. He’s had the ability, but its never quite come together for one reason or another. Gallagher got that out of him, and he’s looked superb, but Roach is a whole new level in my opinion. You may have a different opinion, but I cant understand what its based on other than trying to pick apart Roaches career / achievements.
We’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Also, I said "possibly" the greatest fighter of our generation. Any discussion about THE greatest would have to involve the little philipino, surely?

In the last 15 years are the standouts.
Pac is the 'exception' to the Roach camp. I hope that Macklin does well but time will tell.
Cotto - DLH and Barrera were past their best - especially DLH and MAB.
JMM was not and look what happened.
