God Bless you, Ernie.

A decent, honest article here.

A terrible shame. RIP Ernie.

I was lucky enough to see his 100th fight, where he received a framed certificate from the BBBofC to mark the occasion. Ernie took on Darren Barker that night and he took his lumps and bumps like the good pro he was.

A real character of the sport and will be sadly missed.

i was not aware that ernie had has his licence removed due to a dodgy MRI scan, im presuming this did not do his state of mind any good? unable to take part in the sport he loved and therefore not bringing the bacon home?

did ernie have another job?

Nathan Cleverly took on Ernie in his pro debut in Edinburgh in 2005. You could see Nathan, who is so tall in the flesh he has to be seen to be believed, was nervous but Ernie was Ernie: he didn't give a damn. He looked over at Cleverly before the first bell and suddenly barked, "Has anyone got a stepladder?"
It remains one of those Tex Cobb moments.

RIP Ernie
ernie was always in shape, and did his best, normally not good enough, but the opponent always knew he had been in a fight.
