I used to say, no matter what came later, people forgot what a genuinely terrific fighter Camacho was at both 130 & 135lbs.Ambling Alp wrote:I think De La hoya has been discussed enough.
Camacho was a great fighter for awhile until he fought Edwin Rosario. He had great speed, great defense and decent power. He was a boxer who could punch. However, after he got hurt in the Rosario fight, he changed. He became a runner who occasionally boxed. He landed few punches but received even less.
Wss he overrated? Well people don't like him, so many call him overrated.
If a lot people rated him as one of the top 50 fighters of all-time or something like that, then yes he would be overrated. However, it does seem like many people rate him that high.
As disappointing as his career was, he did beat several good fighters. He did enough to be in the Hall of Fame in a few years.
Not on this specific thread, but rating De La hoya has been talked to death. He had so many close fights, sometimes getting the decision, sometimes not. and the people that don't like don't think he deserved the decisons that he did get (ie-Sturm,Qaurtey). The people that do like him think he got ripped off. (ie-Trinidad, 2nd Mosley fight.)pjonesy wrote:Looking at Camacho's career tells me that he might not quite get the credit he deserves. i may have mistaken the excessive popularity of a fighter's image for overrated credit as a boxer. I just did not care to watch the guy fight, but he had 79 fights and most of his losses are to excellent boxers. It also does seem that he was quite a force at 130, 135. As far as De La Hoya is concerned, i have not seen his name mentioned excessively on this topic. Again, is he overrated or just not considered an elite level fighter. It seems like he was very concerned about his image and his legacy in boxing. Did the Pac fight damage his legacy or did it just elevate Pac to a new level?Goodnight, Irene wrote:I used to say, no matter what came later, people forgot what a genuinely terrific fighter Camacho was at both 130 & 135lbs.Ambling Alp wrote:I think De La hoya has been discussed enough.

Now, I think it's more likely they choose not to remember.
