A good one was Radcliffe Greene absolutely annihilating a novice but extremely popular prospect at the Elephant and Castle. I forget his name but it was souble-barrelled. Green, who I believe had three wins and about 10 losses to his name, silenced a very voluble crowd by absolutely, literally sparking the guy for a worrying amount of minutes.

I remember Kirkland Laing gettin sparked in the 90's by what Reg Gutteridge called a Journey man Buck Smith. He had the biggest left hook, what a lucky swing it was. Me and my mate practiced it for years but thought we would get thrown out the ring for using it. lol.

that buck smith was a bull strong, patient type of journeyman. Just shut up shop, soaked up ridiculous ammounts of punches and waited for his chance. fair play to him, i couldnt believe it.

You start a thread trying to disrespect a boxer, you get put in your place so you bring it apon yourself to start this one knowing full well that Vinny got a prospect award at the LEBA the weekend so you could just mention him. Kelcie Banks was the nail on cert for a gold medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but one right hand in the 1st round from Regilio Tuur ended that.

Tuur went on to have a decent pro career himself though.

Willie Bilan from Fife was a really good amateur and Tommy Gilmour had high hopes for him after signing him.
After winning his first couple of fights he was knocked spark out by Alex Spitko on the undercard of a Kevin Anderson fight.
Was a pretty sickening KO and Bilan has never really bounced back from it.

I mind that, some of the worst refereein I've seen in person. He was clearly fecked after the 1st kd but the ref just let him get splattered.

Absolutely.
I remember watching him just basically drop to his knees and then keel over after the first knock down.
God knows how he managed to get back up, but the ref should have stopped it long before.

Ah beat me to to it mate!

Saunders was much better than his record would suggest. He also floored a 23-0-0 Mike Jennings in the first before being stopped in five in one of the final fights of his career. You can't help but feel if he'd been matched a bit easier earlier in his career he'd have a much better statistical record and perhaps got the british title earlier.

i had no idea that vinny won prospect of the year at the LEBA awards at the weekend, and how on earth would i know, i live in lincolnshire..surrounded by spuds, tractors, polish people and drains (great pike fishing !!) .......im not too bothered about who won the prospect of the year, i bet those that voted are busy wiping the egg of their faces now !!

in all seriousness, there is a huge void at the moment in talent coming through from the capital, far more fighters are emerging from the midlands, wales, manchester and scotland...... but equally........how has vinny mitchell beat the likes of degale, groves and even tony owen and akaash bhatia in a prospect award from the capital...??
