All that matters is you being the #1 contender when the mandatory is due. Nobody has ever fought the #1 every week. There are another 9 fighters who are just as deserving in between.

With the utmost respect Neri, I disagree... Being the no 1 challenger means you deserve a title shot more than anyone else.

Besides if a champion kept fighting the no 8 and no 9 ranked fighters, he would get scrutiny for taking the "softer" options.

But would a mandatory come along sooner or later? Yes. Do fighters fight the #1 fighter every fight? No. That just isn't boxing. When you have a mandatory you face up to it. In the meantime you can face whoever the fornicate you want as long as they are ranked.
