"Work behind the jab" is used quite a lot...not really a cliche of such but still. "Getting the rounds in"...can't think of anymore off the top of my head, good topic though :TU:

"The light welterweight divsion is the deepest in boxing today.."

"Pound for pound.."

"heart of a lion.."

"True warrior"

And most of the American writers at maxboxing have at least one line in each piece starting "Hey,........"

As in, "Hey, I don't get out much." etc etc

You have to knock them out to get a draw over there

Beating Mexican road-sweepers

the lightly regarded WBU title

in the old days it would've been a 'nobbins' fight

COmmentators' cliches:

Maybe the stoppage was a little premature but he was going to get stopped in the next round anyway.

The next step on, what his manager allegedly believes, is a path to glory.

A colourful character.

Reminiscent of Marvin Hagler against Tommy Hearns all those years ago.

I used to spar with Mike Tyson. Get me another pie

Reg Gutteridge'isms -

There's no love lost between these two!

It's all over bar the shouting.

Looks like it's three falls and a submission rule here...

I think his corner's advice was "look out, here he comes!"

Jim Watt'isms

That shot was bang on the chin!

This fella looks like he knows his way around a ring...

He's fighting ( the other guy's ) fight.

What about McAuley.

What do you think of Robin Reid in this fight Dave?

'He should retire, he's not getting any younger and the older you get the more you can get hurt, I'm not sure how much he has left'.

Ugh - despite coming off his most significant performance in five years?

He has a point though, if Magee has any sort of chin Reid would have lost by a country mile!! Reid looked the worst I have ever seen him in that fight.
