'I would have beaten prime Jones and Leonard'- Anthony Small

He's changing my opinion of him actually. I never thought I'd say that. He came across quite well via his Prizefighter interview.

And this is just plain funny. :TU:

Lets hope this performance is better than last times one! I have never been overly impressed with him, in the ring, always seems a bit style over substance.

He's a "character" all right, and I did really enjoy his win over Matthew Hall- one of the VERY few fights recently where I have really wanted a boxer to win.

That said, his last fight was trousers, and I just have a feeling he might come unstuck in this one. Hope not, but I'm tempted to bet against him.

the interview I witnesses with him was about 15 seconds long during which he managed to string together less diction than Gareth Gates could have done. But that's no reason to criticize a person, just meaning it was rather low on substance altho' to his credit he diverted attention quite rightly elsewhere rather than on himself.

Reading that, which I'm glad I did.....I kind of get where he is coming from. Course Jones and Leonard would have spanked his backside, he's merely saying he'd have been "up for it!!" ....go on Small son!

I formed the opinion about 2 or 3 years ago that he's a nice bloke who seems to work hard and take an interest in helping the kids in his community.

I have witnessed him in the flesh precisely once at the York Hall in 06 and he was god-awful. I think Francis would have eaten him alive that night Ian.

I have however been impressed by his potential on other occasions, not least against the American in Contender and one or 2 other good wins, he's had. I hope the lad gets to the World Scene it might be brief but it would be fun.

I used to find the scream mask funny, although I was probably the only one haha. What about standing on the side of the ring at wigan shouting 9-1 9-1 9-1 because Spurs had just hammered them, and then telling anyone who'd listen that he doesnt like spurs but just did it to wind people up.

Small did a lot on his own, he turned his flat into a gym with wall to wall mirrors for boxing as well as looking at himself

I accept he can look dreadful in the ring at times, but he can also be outstanding... The way he finished Matty Hall in their fight was nothing short of sensational.

Fuuny, because it assumes:

1. Most of the people at the show will be locals.

2. That local people from Wigan support Wigan FC, and not Manchester United.

I spend many "happy" days in the town, and pretty much everyone I knew was either "Rugby or United."

Aye, no doubt. I've seen him plenty of times and he's almost exclusively been shite. But he has put in the odd performance which makes you think 'Why can't he do that all the time?'

I will repeat a line from my report when I first saw him, in his third fight against Clakka in 2004 at Hillsborough. I've seen whole bills I've forgotten but for some reason this stuck with me:

'I have no idea what the question is, but I'm pretty sure Anthony Small is not the answer.'

Fair play, he's got a lot further than I thought.

Yeah, what a disgrace, losing to a seasoned, dangerous Commonwealth champion while still an up and comer.

do you know what i mean :!:

people who cant do it themself's can only have people of pacquios calibre to meet there expectations. the time small fought pryce, bradley was flying :!: he's since gone backwards & i dont think he'll get to where he was.

May I ask why you really wanted him to win that fight? Do you not like Matty Hall? If so, why?
Probably because Hall's fans caused a lot of bother that night and put Whicker off going to the boxing again

Proper world-title prospects wouldn't get knocked out by Bradley Pryce and struggle against the likes of Thomas McDonagh. British level fighter, European title would be very good achievement.

You might say world title prospects don't get stopped by a 41-year-old Carl Thompson, too.

I'm not saying Small will win a world title, but the point is a young prospect getting beaten by a savvy veteran does not always mean they are "exposed". And don't forget Small still performed very, very well against a Pryce who was in the form of life and may well have won if he's shown a bit more composure and also hadn't gassed. Pryce wasn't far off being stopped himself in the early going.

Yes, and Haye has always been regarded more highly than Small. I'm just saying it's a similar situation, albeit at a level or two down.

And I'm not saying losing a fight is a bad thing either, far from it, but Small's not 21-22 or on the way up is he, he's been promising big things for a while now but from where I sit it seems it's his gob that's doing the talking. And I'll take my hat off to him if he were to beat the likes of Rhodes. Just don't think he's that good.

Yeah, we'll see. The jury's still out. The whole point really was just because of that idiotic comment saying he lost to Pryce "for God's sake"!

I cant believe this even needs debating.Everyone should rewatch Small's last fight and put the matter to bed.We are just feeding his delusions talking about it
