Chauncey Welliver -- win in NV -- KIWI
Chauncey Welliver -- win in NV -- KIWI
I have added the following explanation after reviewing a letter from the president of the NZ Federation, whcih I have a copy of.
Originally announced as a loss for Welliver, but the Executive Comittee of the New Zealand National Boxing Federation discovered an error in addition in the scorecards. Welliver was awarded the win and the official who made the error "has been censored and temporarlly suspended from duty."
Kiwi -- please don't change the fight back to a loss for Welliver as you did recently.

Result
Unfortunately that is not so, according to NZNBF’s President Gary McCrystal.
Scores were:
Reddaway 58 – 56 Uta
Belton 59 – 57 Welliver
Bragg 59 – 56 Uta. This was later found to be incorrect & was changed to 58 – 56 & still in favour of Uta
Uta won on Split points.

I seen what happened
I remember I asked one of the judges what the fuss was about, he was laughing because he said the other judge thought he gave the fight to the american, apparently the scorcards had blue and red printed on them for the corners to be scored and this judge had scored blue the winner coz big blue trunks he was weering, shame he was in red corner haha and judge had a red face.
Guys -- the letter I have is from Gary McCrystal, President of the New Zealand National Boxing Federation. He states that at a meeting of the executive comittee, the scores were reviewed, corrected Welliver's loss changed to a win.
Unless you have written proof from the Federation, as I do, the result is a win for Welliver.

NZNBF president Gary McCrystal says administrators held a weekend meeting to investigate Glozier's concerns and check judges' scorecards. A discrepancy was found in one of the judge's cards, due to an error in addition, but did not affect the final result.
"The result will stand," says Mr McCrystal, who is keen to book a rematch for the pair, possibly for the New Zealand heavyweight title.

Are you sure the letter you have is from Gary?
Cheers!

Carrick Belton sent me the letter written by the President. It says at the top -- "correct Chauncey Welliver's loss to win"
Chauncey has writtten me separately and confirms the change. He also states that Judge Reddaway had it for him, 58 – 56, not for Uta
THe Commission didn't note the judges score on the letter

According to the official WBE website Chauncy Welliver is the WBE 'World Youth' champion:

The NZ comm said no title fight took place under their jurisdiction.SteveO wrote:Well, whatever we may think about the WBE the fact remains that they recognised the Welliver-Wijohn contest as being for their 'World Youth Title'. Therefore it should be so noted on their records. Could AntonS please put it back?
Well, whether the NZ boxing authority recognise it as a title fight or not and despite the fact that Wijohn is 33 years old and the contest was held over 6 rounds (The Eric 'Butterbean' Esch IBA Super-Heavyweight title fights were held over 4 rounds) it was still recognised by the WBE as being for their 'Youth World Super-Heavyweight' title. I don't really care if you want to add it to their records or not but I assumed that if 'boxrec' is proud of the accuracy of fight records then this title should be noted - it dosen't matter what we may think of all these 'minor' belts - they must mean something to the boxers that fought for them - we shouldn't just ignore them because we may not like them.

I think that WBE is a sanctions body that has the potential, we support the WBE forever.Anyway I believe that WBE decision is right. We should respect each sanctions body, because they brought a lot of happinesses for us.

I recived the info FROM THE COMM'N
Carrick Belton sent me the letter written by the President. It says at the top -- "correct Chauncey Welliver's loss to win"
The email came directly on his Commission email.
So, we changed it based ot on Welliver's contacting me -- I refused -- but on the official communication.
