Yes,he's talented, hard to match, and probably best avoided if you can get an easier nights work. Some of that article though...(from Maree, not you). This is the guy who told everyone on Channel M that Michael Gomez was looking his best ever in the gym.He was shot.I personally know boxers on the right hand side of the bill. Not one has been "told" to lose. They may not expect to,but thats different.

Yep the very same Kevin Maree. In my defence i was going to say hes shot, looks terrible in the gym, but probably not the best move a few weeks before a fight :OhYes: As im sure you will also agree a fighter can look amazing in the gym, when the bell goes on the night nobody really knows whats going to happen.

In my defence to get Gomez down to 9st 4, healthily, at the very end of his career should have got me a place in boxings hall of fame. Bare in mind he weighed 12 and a half stone a few months later in some unlicenced fight in manchester. I was very proud of the job my gym did

i must agree with kevin maree,at the weighin for the burns fight gomez looked very fit and healthy, people need to realise you dont become a good coach overnight and imo kevin will become a very good coach because he's got a great willingness to learn.very few coaches are handed fantastic prospect who even without a coach should win domestic titles at the very least, being a coach needs time and dedication something kevin has loads of.

Your first paragraph is factually inaccurate, Leonard. This too is what I was led to believe initially but that isn't the case. There are conditions attached. That's one of the reasons I got p'd off with hearing about it. Steve Goodwin assured me 'it was never the case' that 15k was up for grabs for simply beating him.

Can I just add to this.

Kevin Maree is probably the most academically qualified boxing trainer in the country-FACT. Barry Mcguigan, one of the most meticulous men in British boxing had his pick of virtually every trainer in the country and chooses Kevin to work with his fighters whenever they're in the UK, and also of course with Kenny Anderson.

Kevin is a good pal of mine, and I wish so much that I had have had a trainer like Kev when I was active. His thoughtful and knowlegable approach ensures that the fighters get into the ring in the best possible physical and mental shape their bodies will allow.

Too many boxing trainers over-complicate things... but let me tell you first hand- many, many trainers are little more then cheer leaders with a pair of mitts on and no idea on the physiology of what they are doing to their fighters. I'd much rather be around someone with excellent boxing knowledge and a flawless understanding of the body- then someone who thinks they've got magical powers.

Kevin is knowlegable, not one to copy everyone else and everything he has said in that article is 100% accurate. He's been used as a cutman on nearly every major show now as well. He works hard and he deserves the kudos he gets from the knowlegable people in the game.

And Mick1975 you don't think fighters are told to lose? Your having a laugh. Believe me this goes on...

stevegoodwin wrote:I would let El Macchi beat Matthew Hall on their promotion but he wont be getting the offer of a 15k bonus from me.

I have not heard from Matthew Halls promoter offering to put the fight on.

As I have said the time is for people to stop calling out on forums and offer to fight El Macchi.

The time is to put pen to paper and do it.

Yassine would fight Matthew Hall in a heartbeat!! We await the call.
I was at Upton Park last night and heard off several people that El Macchi was offered Hall for the EU title after Vitu pulled out and declined. Can you shed any light on this?

Total rubbish. Yassine does not have a British passport and cannot therefore legitimately fight for a EU title. As Yassines promoter I should know.

Matthew Hall has been offered a Yassine fight like every other British Light Middleweight.

Whilst on forums people have perpetuated that Matthew wants the fight (on many occasions) no one representing Matthew has come forward to either accept the fight on our promotion or to offer the fight on any other promotion.

i dont think any fighter can be TOLD, but asked yes :DDD

i could see if a promoter has a ticket seller who aint much cop, in giving the journeyman protection money? but to be stopped they would have to fork up some money as they lose earnings for not being able to contest.

i dont think boxing is corrupt as other sports like football, snooker etc on the gambling front as boxing allways seems to get found out by someone putting a silly big chunk on :DD forcing bookies to cancel.
hasnt this happend on a couple of irish shows??

EU title apart, was he not offered the Hall fight per se? I know Hall fought that night and I don't think it was for the EU title.
