If Khan chooses to fight Casamayor over the more dangerous Katsidis then it's another kick in the teeth for the fans.

He gave a great speech after (predictably) taking Paulie apart about wanting the BIG fights and wanting to unify the division, then he picks the least dangerous option open to him :witzend: :witzend:

Khan is so frustrating to follow

I personally though Casamayor would be fighting Joan Guzman next on the undercard of the Diaz vs marquez.

I wonder if Guzman was considered for a millisecond ? prob not.

I love some of the idiots on this thread. It is well known that Maidana, Bradley, Alexander are all either busy or injured and Khan wants a fight. So what's wrong with Casamayor? Would Junior Witter be a better opponent? It would certainly mean nothing in the US. Would McCloskey be better - of course not.
Sure Katsidis, but how much is he asking for? The promoter has to make the figures add up.
I think Casamayor is a great opponent.

A great opponent? WOW!

And its because people like you are happy to accept 90% dead cert in a certain boxers favour that they are able to serve it up so often.

Yes. casamayor stopped Katsidis ... But Katsidis is a lightweight ... Khan is a light-welter.

Khan should be made to fight a top ten lightwelter atleast ... Not a top ten lightweight who is clearly living off past glories.

It's a fight 2 months after he was last in action, he's 23, he's still learning and it's Joel Casamayor - a multi world champion.

The way you talk is as if it was Colin Lynes or Tocker Pudwill. He could have picked some absolute no name like Patrick Lopez, who is in the WBA's top 15. How is Casamayor easier than him, or a McCloskey?

Why do different rules apply to Khan's voluntary defences than anyone else's?

Katsidis is more dangerous, imo, but Casamayor is a fine opponent for a fight that's not far away. This is a fight to keep Khan busy, not one where they're going to put him in with someone really dangerous. Hopefully Khan will fight one of the top light welterweights near the end of the year.

Yes Witter would be allot better opponent than Casamayor, because Witter can punch and isn't an ex bantamweight, thats where Casa started after all. As for meaning something in the US, past it flabby Casamayor doesn't mean a whole lot at 140lbs

In no way would Witter be better than Casa. Its madness to say he would.I think peolple in this thread are doing Casamayor a great disservice. For a voluntary,he is a good opponent.Imagine HBO's reaction if they tried to give him Junior after his last showing...

it's much better than khan fighting erik morales, which some ppl expected (or maybe said out of cynicism).

casamayor's definitely an excellent fighter, but one on the slide (consdering his stoppage defeat to marquez) and doesn't have any business up at light welter.

it would make more waves if casamayor won, as it'd make him a 3 weight champ, than if khan won, as is expected due to size, activity and form.

who mentioned a top 15 opponent? Top 10 atleast i wrote.
And if its a filling time fight - then why make it a world title fight?

Too many people make the excuses that he is young and needs the experience. So why win the title if he isn't up to face the top contenders?

It frustrates me that so called boxing fans are happy to see fights which are 90%dead certs ... Its killing boxing as a sport and turning it into WWF wrestling ...

i wouldn't like to see him fight witter. witter's reflexes are dulled and it's not like he grabs the big chances by the scruff of the next when he gets them, is it?

witter's not acceptable due to the losses to bradley (when favoured to win and at home) and alexander (awful, awful retirement defeat).

casamayor is enough of a name, it would seem, to be approved by HBO, due to high profile TV dates vs katsidis and santa cruz, and probably because of whom he's promoted by.

i'd like as much as the next boxrec poster to see khan in a life and death battle, the type of which showtime encourages, but this will happen only at a specific time: when all things suit team khan. i think we know this; it's how the sport works.

in spite of that it is good to see a brit achieve in america, especially if it gets terrestrial TV coverage.

That, for some reason, doesnt seem to matter to the old women brigade on here...

I wonder what's going on with the world sometimes, yes Khan is ducking Michael Katsidis by shamefully fighting the guy who knocked Michael Katsidis out.....

I am starting to get a bit fed up with Khan (and I feel bad about saying it about a British World Champion). But it is becoming VERY clear that no matter what noises come out of his camp... he won't go in with anyone who can dent a grape !

Come on Amir, give us a name to get excited about !

If only Khan would fight one (just one) of the many fighters he keeps calling out.

Nope, instead we get a 38, no make that 39 come fight night... ex super featherweight.

At least it will be on ITV again, because SKY wont be picking it up.

Its not a brilliant fight but 2 months after his last fight its a perfectly acceptable opponent.

Casamayor flattened Katsidis not so long ago so its not that bad.

Not ideal, but a nice filler as long as its Maidana, Bradley or Alexander or Ortiz next.

If it were say Morales then I would be a bit pissed off.

Khan for takes everyone at 140 right now so after the Casamayor fight it should be all systems go.

That would be the same 2005 when Witter was a fighter on the rise who could punch, not a faded force who has won once in two-and-a-half years and can't make light-welterweight and was last seen being called "Witter the Quitter" by a crowd in America.

i actually thought he'd face ortiz. it seems ortiz's win over nate campbell would have been enough of an excuse to cram ortiz in the face of american boxing fans.
