Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??

How is offering Katsidis a good fight, defined as ducking him these days?
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
If this happens will it be on ITV. Also what would the undercard be like?
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Khan has only just started to fight at World class level, so Casamayor is an understandable opponent at this stage.bigdaddy wrote:Why should Khan not fight Casamayor after all he is still getting well paid.?????????
However, it is not a fight I am likely to get excited about.

And not an overweight and over the hill s-feather ... or lightweight ;;-)
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Casamayor is a damn site better than the Jewish lad.
But let's be right here, he was lucky to squeak past Santa Cruz.... but he did hand Katsidis his first defeat.
That said, I'd say Katsidis is a harder fight nowadays than Joel is. I imagine he will be extremely rusty indeed.
4 fights since 2006 !

WOW! Khan ducks banger and opts for faded, blown up super-feather!
I can't believe it!
And I REALLY DID BELIEVE that he was gonna take on Maidana and then clean up Bradley and Alexander.
Incredible what surprises boxing can throw up

Another Barrera, but not quite as bad..........
Just trying to pump up his record with named fighters on the slide. If Maidana is injured and Bradley wont play, then i understand that he needs an opponent and one that can be sold to the public..............Just !!
I just hope that it's not a tactic that he uses through-out his career and takes on the named fighters after they have faded or been through too many tough battles. I can imagine Marquez being lined up in 18 months time, as he creeps over the hill. It could be boxing politics, but the fights with Maidana, Bradley and Alexander have to be made and in that mix would be a possible Katsidis fight, along with Ortiz...........
Then he has to move up in weight !!

Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
I would have rather seen Khan fight Katsidis or a lower rated JWW, such as Kaizer Mabuza. Casamayor is on the slide and poses very little threat. It seems to me like a Khan victory is inevitable. I would like Khan to fight guys (preferably fighters 140 or up) who would test him a bit and I don't think this version of Casamayor will do that.

The cyncicism in this match up is beautiful
Fighting the guy that beat Katsidis even though he is a small LW and will be an even smaller LWW. Pkus he is 164 years old
However, he still has skills, is a dirty so and so and is southpaw. If he could get inside Khan( no mean feat these days) who know?

Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Britain's Amir Khan continues his safety first campaign when he takes on Cuban veteran Joel Casamayor in a 12-rounder on these shores in the summer.
The quick but fragile Khan comes off a one-sided 11-round stoppage of Brooklyn's Paulie Malignaggi in Madison Square Garden last month. He dominated Malignaggi in the way Ricky Hatton had dominated Malignaggi a couple of years earlier, so it was a win which really proved nothing. Frankly, trainer Freddie Roach talks of big fights for his man but then comes an opponent who reeks of caution. The feather-fisted Malignaggi posed no risk to Khan's notorious glass jaw and southpaw Casamayor is so much smaller than Khan – and so much older – that you wonder how Roach keeps a straight face.
The 38-year-old Casamayor, who won Olympic gold at bantamweight in 1992 and peaked at super-featherweight as a pro with a win over Diego Corrales in 2003, has really struggled since moving up to lightweight a year later which culminated in a heavy 11-round stoppage to Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez two years ago, since when he has boxed just once, beating a nobody last year.
Casamayor was stopped for the first time in his career by Marquez and the question has to be asked: if Casamayor has struggled at lightweight, what chance does he have against Khan at light-welterweight? Khan, 23, defends his WBA light-welterweight title.

Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
He was never going to fight an elite opponent on 2months notice was he, decent stay busy fight and if its on free ITV all the better. 24months ago he wouldn't be given a chance in hell against Casamayor, how times change. I'm a Casamayor fan, wouldn't mind watching him in the flesh
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Another gimmee fight for Khan ... Nothing new then..
Nice to see the new people handling him have as much confidence in his chinas fWank did..

Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
casamayor did beat katsidis though.
i don't think we should be surprised about these kind of fights. the bradleys and alexanders of the world will probably have to unify with each other, whereas khan will be carefully matched and still get on HBO. "carefully matched" as in good money for fighting lower risk names (not necessarily a criticism).
i agree, a light welterweight would be nice. but if you're khan, then you do get some special treatment. it would be a bit foolish to gun straight for devon alexander though, as no one really knows whom he is and he'll make his living from drawing flies and HBO licence fee. khan is much more well known, is an olympic medallist and has more to lose (IMO).
