Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
I hope Casamayor smashes Khan's balls. Don't see him winning though.
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
Khan is only 23, so say he looks to retire by the time he's 30, fighting 2-3 times a year, he's got at least 17-18 bouts left. Now if he stays as a champion or operating at chamionship level, I think its reasonable to expect 12-13 top level (bradley, alexander, katsidis, maidana) type fights in defence of a belt he holds, or trying to win one he doesn't. That leaves 5-6 "marking time" fights, such as this one. If one in three of his fights are against a decent, canny operator such as Casamayor is, I think that's more than reasonable. It's not as if he's a 33 year old, 8 year belt holder taking on someone he's already KO'd in a round.
Golden Boy are no mugs. Why throw Khan in with someone too dangerous too soon? A good performance by Khan against Casa will be noted in US boxing circles, more so than an equally impressive performance against Witter and will thus boost his profile for what I expect will be a clash with Victor Ortiz towards the end of the year.

Because Khan is the holder of a reputable world title belt and as such he should be willing too take on all comers to prove he is worthy of being the holder of such a prestigious belt.earsjohn wrote:Why throw Khan in with someone too dangerous too soon?
With regards to your comment concerning Ortiz - b*llocks - Khan would walk through him now!!!
With regards to your comments concerning Casamayor - again - b*llocks - Casamayor is the sort of opponent Khan should have faced when he was on the fringes of proving his skills in attempting to get a world title shot - not now he is a champion. The crucial thing you conveniently forget is Casamayor whilst he is a name - he has got his name by fighting at LOWER weights and thus it is yet another safe fight for Khan.
Also - how many fights has Casamayor had at Light Welterweight??
And for all those Khan fans who state Casamayor beat a weight drained Katsidis at a lower weight so its a good fight choice are also writing complete and utter b*llocks!!!

You're the one writing bollocks. Katsidis was weight drained? Why's he still a lightweight then, over 2 years later?Spud wrote:And for all those Khan fans who state Casamayor beat a weight drained Katsidis at a lower weight so its a good fight choice are also writing complete and utter b*llocks!!!![]()

Whilst teasing meaning out of his posts is a Herculean task, I believe Spudly is attempting to mimic a hypothetical (i.e. fictional) Khan fan. Which just proves he's delusional, as no-one that I can see has said that.Asterix wrote:You're the one writing bollocks. Katsidis was weight drained? Also: nice to see gobbles talking his usual brand of sense interspersed with utter shite again. I thought someone else had taken over his account recently, but with the "I've looked up the result" inside dope --combined of course with his normal patronising whinging--on Khan's amateur bout with Ortiz it appears not.

Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
The Casamayor that beat Katsidis has now faded while Katsidis has just got better and thats why Casamayor is the preferred opponent. You would have to make Katsidis/Khan a 50/50 whereas in my view Khan/Casamayor would be 60/40. Khan, because of his speed is a hard man to beat on points and its getting harder to catch him on the chin but I am certain Katsidis could find the target. I cant see Khan fighting Katsidis or Bradley anytime soon, they are just too risky. Smaller men and faded champions should keep him winning for a while.
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
I thought Spud's point was that Khan fans would say this fight is OK because Casamayor beat Katsidis, but Spud put the "weight drained" bit in there to excuse Katsidis's loss. Casamayor was just better at that stage.Datsue wrote:Whilst teasing meaning out of his posts is a Herculean task, I believe Spudly is attempting to mimic a hypothetical (i.e. fictional) Khan fan. Only person who told me about the Ortiz fight was Khan himself. Of course, you come up with your own brand of ignorant shite all on your own.

Where did Khan tell you (in person, on Twitter, etc.) and what did he say? I'm curious.gobbles wrote:Only person who told me about the Ortiz fight was Khan himself. Of course, you come up with your own brand of ignorant shite all on your own.
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
I'm not sure about that. Ortiz hits hard and is pretty skilled. He would certainly be a much bigger threat to Khan than anyone he has faced as a professional. Ortiz lost to Maidana, but he had him down three times in two rounds and utilized the worst possible game plan, to slug with a slugger, who also happens to be the hardest puncher in the division.Spud wrote: With regards to your comment concerning Ortiz - b*llocks - Khan would walk through him now!!!

In person. He beat him at the Junior Olympics in Louisiana. I think he said it was in Alexandria. Apparently the US coaches were so impressed they asked him about switching allegiances to the US. Said they had been raging about Ortiz before the fight.
Him and Ortiz are quite good mates now. I think he stopped him in the second on the outscored rule. But to be 20-points up in under 4 mins is impressive.

Not to get too pedantic, but in the juniors a 15 point margin was formerly required for the bout to be stopped on the outclass rule.

Ortiz in my view would not be able to handle Khan's speed - I am sorry to be in the minority but I simply wasnt impressed with his performance against Nate Campbell. I remain totally convinced Khan would put him under allsorts of pressure from the very outset of the opening bell - let someone like Ortiz settle and you are in trouble - much the same as Khan really - but Ortiz is not the man to put Khan under pressure.crusader wrote:I'm not sure about that. perfectly acceptable opponent given it's a quick follow up defence.

Way to ignore 90% of what I wrote and make an ill-informed comment on an out of context line.Spud wrote:Because Khan is the holder of a reputable world title belt and as such he should be willing too take on all comers to prove he is worthy of being the holder of such a prestigious belt.earsjohn wrote:Why throw Khan in with someone too dangerous too soon?

All I said on Ortiz was that I expect the two of them to fight towards the end of the year (my implication being that Khan-Casa and any Ortiz fight in the meantime being used to build towards that fight). I never made any comment about the liklihood or otherwise of Khan winning.
As for the Casa fight, do you not appreciate this as a marking time fight? Or is it a necessity that each title holder fights the most dangerous, live opponent at every possible opportunity? Idealistically, of course I'd agree with you, but we do not live in a fistic Utopia, so realism kicks in. The Khan-Casa fight in the context of Khans career over the next 7-8 years is a sensible and acceptable move.
Yes, he's fought at a lower weight, but so have a large number of possible opponents. Pacquaio, Marquez, even Floyd have all "got their name fighting at lower weights"? Would they be unacceptable? (Yes, I know its churlish to compare Casamayor with these chaps, but it highlights my point)
As for "Why throw Khan in with someone dangerous too soon?". I made this comment in the context of Golden Boy growing Khan as a US TV product. GB know that Khan could be TV Gold (and hence literal Gold) so they won't want to risk an investment in him at this early stage of their relationship (again idealistic v realistic viewpoint). As a boxing fan, I'd love every title fight to involve the most dangerous possible opponent, but then I'd also like reduced weight divisions, 1 belt per division, anti-doping and anti-corruption measures to be instituted and operated by an independent global governing body, a boxers union to support boxers at the end of their careers and provide assistance in-career, PPV to be used sparingly for truly special events, world peace, a cure for cancer and a goose that lays golden eggs. As it is, I'll take what I can get. In that context, Khan v Casamayor is perfectly acceptable.
Re: Khan 'ducks' Kastidis and choses Casamayor instead??
My view is this: Khan fought less than a month ago. If he'd taken 4 months off, and fought nobody before a fight against, say, Ortiz or Maidana in September/October, nobody would criticise him. Instead, he's taking a fight. It was never going to be against a Bradley, or an Alexander, even a Katsidis. You may consider Casamayor a soft touch, a past it former champ fighting above his best weight, and you'd be right. However, there's still a chance he could beat Khan. The easiest option would be to not fight at all over the summer, surely? If you think it's a cynical money-making fight, well, you'd probably be right. It's hardly new, though: boxing is full of those, always has been, always will be. Criticise it now, but as long as it's not PPV (and even then, it'd sell), I bet we'll all be watching, because some boxing is better than no boxing.
