Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
yeah probably, but in my eyes he has made a bit of a fanny out of himself in saying the fighter of prizefighter can fight for his euro belt, when there was a fight to be made with a legitimate challengerhurlock wrote:funny analogey![]()

Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
he's promoting the fight & is probably being rewarded for it.
i wouldnt say he is scared of smith & vice versa, smith wouldnt budge on less then 50/50 for buisness purpose's, so six of one, or just buisness.

Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
Anyone calling out the winner of Prizefodder is in need of a serious reality check. Magee needs a holiday to get his head straight.
Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
Have you ever heard of Publicity. From what i read magee didnt want the smigga fight due to a certain promoter wanting a 5 fight tie up of the winner, allegedly.bennie wrote:Anyone calling out the winner of Prizefodder is in need of a serious reality check. Magee sorely wanted Smiggas WBA 4 rank.
Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
Just to clarify on this issue...no quote from BRIAN Magee - it was his manager Pat who made the daft suggestion.
Secondly, re Magee v Smith - I understand that the major sticking point was that Magee didn't want to sign a FIVE fight option deal with Al Legedly. He was prepared to fight Smigga in a one off.
I'm sure both men would love to square off asap but 'the business' has got in the way again.

Smigga isn't even ranked in the top 15 of the WBA.Ted wrote:Have you ever heard of Publicity. Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
Absolutely, I think it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest anyone "ducked" anyone. Magee has proven that he will fight anyone, anywhere at anytime..... well, excluding Brian Barbosa that is (long long time ago).Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Just to clarify on this issue...no quote from BRIAN Magee - it was his manager Pat who made the daft suggestion.

Having said that, I actually find it more concerning for MAGEE's future that it is his manager who has made this daft suggestion. Whats happend to all these "options" they talked about when the talks were stalling. Surely it is evidence that the manager cannot get Magee a meaningful fight is he is actually calling out the Prizefighter winner. It should be the other way about.
With the Super 6 using up, and highlighting the limitations, of now 7 of the leading Super Middleweight contenders/champions - Magee should be in a prime position to get some meaningful fights. He is a good EBU level fighter who wouldn't look an idiot at world level.
Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
WBO or whatever he was ranked 4 at.bennie wrote:Smigga isn't even ranked in the top 15 of the WBA.Ted wrote:Have you ever heard of Publicity. But he was there in the ring with the finalists last night, hardly like he didn't have anything to do with itIan 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Just to clarify on this issue...no quote from BRIAN Magee - it was his manager Pat who made the daft suggestion.
Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
I think Brian is with Matchroom, no? I might be wrong. I'm sure it was just a bit of PR that got the wrong kind of attention. All I'm saying is that people are saying Brian himself made this offer and he didn't.Lenny wrote:But he was there in the ring with the finalists last night, hardly like he didn't have anything to do with itIan 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Just to clarify on this issue...no quote from BRIAN Magee - it was his manager Pat who made the daft suggestion.
Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
I am certainly not as informed as many of the posters on here, but here it is from a boxing fan's perspective, someone with no affiliation to anyone involved in boxing:
Fight went to purse bids, Magee pulls out on same day they are due.
Smith left wondering why
Magee calls out the winner of prizefighter
People such as myself left scratching their heads.
Now 5 fight tie ups, and promotor issues, i am not so hot on these things, and if i have said anything that has been out of order about Magee in terms of dodging then appoligies.
But it does not take away the fact that Magee was due to fight Smith, pulls out, and offer it to the winner of prizefighter. I am sorry, but to me that is wrong. It looks like a dodge. If it ain't then fair play. But why can't someone be honest and tell us what the issue is.
By the way if Magee's manager is giving him this advice, he is CRAAAAAAZY

Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
I'm going to be careful what I type - but am I correct in saying in mandated fights (purse bids) at world title level that means no promoter options. I can remember team Haye being delighted when the Mormeck fight went to purse bids - cause he knew he wouldn't be under the clutches of King.
A question here.... is it the same at British level?

You seem to think its a straight forward choice of fight me - pay me. Of course we all know that boxing is one of the most political sports alive.
Political - as in too many outside forces trying to come together to get a compromise.

To the layman it should be that simple, but i realise that it is not, which is what i was putting across in my last post.
I am telling it how it is from a FAN'S point of view.

there a a trillion other examples of fights that should happen that didnt happen due to 'outside forces'avidlemon wrote:Ted wrote:mate magee would fight smigga tonight if it wasnt for the offer on the table.avidlemon wrote:I am certainly not as informed as many of the posters on here, but here it is from a boxing fan's perspective, someone with no affiliation to anyone involved in boxing:

Re: Brian Magee wants the winner of Prizefighter
Yes Stu in any purse bid situation there is no tie in with the promoter who wins the bid, it is just for that fight.stujones wrote:I'm going to be careful what I type - but am I correct in saying in mandated fights (purse bids) at world title level that means no promoter options. Exactly mate. Which still leaves the reason why Magee pulled out an hour before the purse bids were opened, a mysteryMooresy wrote:Yes Stu in any purse bid situation there is no tie in with the promoter who wins the bid, it is just for that fight.stujones wrote:I'm going to be careful what I type - but am I correct in saying in mandated fights (purse bids) at world title level that means no promoter options.
