Fitzsimmons which we can claim as ours as many old kiwi boxing purists have told me and even one of his relatives told me that Bob loved this place and called it home long before he came back to live out his years. This is my reason for saying we had a heavyweight champion but at the same time its like the Meehan scenario, Meehan coming from here then going over to oz and calling Australia home, I look at it that way and I think 'ohhhh ok....' but hey, a lot of kiwis would tell ya Bob was a kiwi.
In Tua weve been closer then probably all Aussie heavyweights have and another thing is I didnt say NZ boxers rule Aussie boxers however I did say that many elite NZ heavies would beat a lot of Aussie heavies thats my opinion. I did remind us of our past and present boxers and kick boxers who have come out of New Zealand like:- Bob Fitzsimmons, Jimmy Peau, Ray Sefo, Mark Hunt, Shane Cameron, Paea Wolfgram, Kalivath Meehan, Monty Betham Snr and David Tua all these guys walked around NZ and just started out boxing untill they finally became something.
Ray Sefo(kickboxing) and Mark Hunt(kickboxing and now MMA) I know aint boxing but that they kicked everyones butt in Australasia in their respective sport the rest well we all know where they stand in Australasian boxing.
