Entitled to your opinion mate. It will be a cracker. We know how good Stephen is, we know how good Simpson is. They will both be 100% and are both extremely fit lads....

Boxing is a funny game but this one I feel will go to plan, the best man will win and the belt will go in my Da's cabinet

Simpson is a tough customer and looked very strong in his last fight. This is a very risky matchup for Smith and I think it might be coming too early, a la Bayar-Sexton. If Smith wins I will be very impressed.

Not as confident Smith will take it as the the rest of you are.

Happy to read this, 11 have voted for Simpson but you're one of a couple who have actually said why.

As i've said, am picking Smith to win wide, but I think it'll be a fvcking great fight. Cannot wait.

Tough fight for Swift so early in his career but the lad is class.

He beats Simpson in a hard fight on points for me..

Smith should win this one because he has the better overall skills, but Simpson is tough and has seen all this before, and he's never been an easy night for anyone.

Full marks to Smith for taking this fight, he could of waited and got an easier title shot as someone else and on home ground, but he's taking on an experienced and probably the thoughest domestic feather he could, and on the title holders home soil.

Not sure about Swifty's power. This is 50-50, more of what we want.

joe selkirk wrote:Swift will stop him in the 9th or 10th, like most of u have said he's better in every department the only advantage Simpson has is it's in Scotland and the way stephen will beat him that won't count for anything. Stephen is special, I don't think there's anyone who trains like him it's scary an if anyone deserves to win titles it's him and his first will 1million percent come on the 4th!
Fighting in scotland gives john no advantage its two men in a ring and the best man will win and that will be simpson, you say noboby trains like swifty well come to my gym and you may change your mind, this will be a very good fight one im personally looking forward too although on the 4th sept there will be two winning SCOTS in burns and simpson.all the best mate BN.

[quote="joe selkirk"]bombhead I think that's always a point that gets brought up when someone is fighting 12 rounds for the first time mate, I'm really not being biased because he's my mate he will fight 12 rounds at pace honestly he gets better as the fight gos on but not at one pace he gos threw the gears and that's going to be simpsons biggest downfall he expect him to slow down an he won't he'l get better![/quote simpsons a machine mate nobody is stronger at featherweight than him over 12 hard hard rounds, when john wins this i really hope they move him on to euro or worldlevel coz hes way past domestic level

The day John Simpson was outhustled by Andy Morris in Glasgow for the British featherweight title was a turning point in the career of the young, talented, wily little Scot. Simpson was a pure boxer who had outjabbed Dazzo Williams in a first stab at the British title, only to see the decision go the other way, and then came Morris, who walked forward and threw too many punches for the counterpunching home man. Suddenly, Simpson was a busier, more aggressive character adding a real slice of ruthlessness to his boxing skills, a mindset that we saw Frank Bruno develop in the later stages of his career, roughing up Pierre Coetzer. People can change.
Simpson made his way down to London and landed a vicious combination to rip the British title from Morris on a bad cut, before smashing him with right hands in a brutally one-sided rubber match. He got stuck into Stephen Foster at York Hall, and into Derry Matthews in a real bruiser in Liverpool, making light of a badly cut scalp. He knocked out Ryan Barrett, hammered Stevie Bell, busted up Paul Truscott, went to war with Paul Appleby, when he dropped his British title on a contentious decision. Most of these guys were unbeaten.
Still only 26, the new steely Simpson – the Commonwealth champion - turns his attention to Liverpool's unbeaten Stephen Smith in Glasgow in September, a former brilliant amateur with 10 straight wins as a pro and all the confidence in the world. Why else would he challenge the vastly more experienced Simpson on his own turf? Smith has never travelled further than eight rounds, and only once at that, when he outscored the gutsy Gavin Reid last year in Liverpool. This is a brave move by the challenger, one that needs to be acknowledged. "Swifty" Smith may have genuine speed and all the moves but you wonder about his stamina and power. Simpson has that sharp right hand and proven stamina, which means the right hand stays sharp from first round to last.
Neverthless, Smith is gifted and he 'wants' this early step up. They say be careful what you wish for but one gets the impression that the classy Smith, classy in and out of the ring, knows exactly what he is up against.

Just hope for Simpsons sake its not a case of deja vu, because 2 years ago Simpson fought another up and comming prospect in Paul Appleby for the british title, Appleby whos record was almost the excatly the same as Smiths at that point showed maturity and power to overcome Simpson... Simpson was beaten by a fresher younger guy albeit by 1 round.. Having said that Simmy came back from that defeat with 2 wins against Truscott and outclassed Stevie Bell..... What odds for the draw??? haha :bag:

well if you belive that mate why not put allot of money on Simpson. Coz I promise u I will b putting good money on smith, it's buying money. Let's see who has a shit load of money after the fight

Smith is as special as prospects come, IMO there is around 5 -6 special tallents in this country, who can win world titles, the likes of smith, Gavin, Selkirk, bellew, degale, groves,

just my opponion but these guys have all the tools to make it really big in the sport.

We also have other up and coming fighters that can go very far, but we need to see more to see what there capable of, people like,

quigg, big pricey, heffron, and many more

wev also got some very good established fighters, boxing in the uk is at a high

there should be some very exciting fights coming up in the future, and hopfully smith v simpson is just the start of some great fights ahead.

just curious to know mate, but if swiffty completly dominates and/or stops him in good fashion, would you then change your mind on him????

i only ask coz allot of people havnt seen too much of ste as a pro yet, due to lack of tv exposure, simpson imo is a realy good pro strong and game as hell, would beat allot of people even at european level, so if swiffty does do a complete number on simpson i would immagaine that would be a good platform to see just how good he really is, and what level he can go to.

I'm surprised Counter-Puncher hasn't posted in this thread yet, as about 15 months ago he told me Smith was one of the most purest fighters and best-looking prospects he had seen. I guess we will see how really good he is against a very useful Simpson.

Looking forward to it, for sure.

It'd surprise me a little bit if he stopped him, but only a little bit. TKO cuts might be a good call.

when john simpson defends his title maybe you will come on and give the man the respect he deserves :shame: stephen is a very good fighter and is getting his chance on the 4th and fair play to him for asking for the fight it speaks volumes for the man :TU:

if simpson does beat swiffty i will be the first to say how good simpson is, i have never disrespected simpson as iv said on many occasions, he is as tough as they come, strong, experienced, has skill, and is also game as they come.
but i honestly believe smith will win in great fashion, imo he will get a majority decision, by at least 7-8 rounds or even might pull out a late stopage, but he will have to be at his very best to do that as simpson is a tough tough guy.
i know how good swiffty is having witnessed so many of his fights am and pro, i have also seen him train on numerous occasions, and know how dedicated and how much he wants to be the best. its a great fight, but i 100% think smith will be far too much for him, as he is better in nearly every single department with the exception of pro experience, but having said that, simpson will have never have fought the orkward world class fighters swiffty has in the amateurs.

BN I don't know if I've sounded like I'm taking anythink away from simpson by saying what I've said about stephen there's no doubt simpsons a good solid featherweight and he has got more experience but u have to understand mate he's a different class to any featherweight in the UK and I'm not the only one who thinks it! I'm not saying its going to be a easy fight but I swer people will get a shock when they see how good fit and strong stephen is, I don't think he's got out of second gear yet but watch when he dose! :bag:
