I believe I've discovered a missing fight for Billy Kilgore, the fighter who defeated Jake LaMotta. On Sept. 16, 1943, Kilgore fighting as a featherweight lost to Tommy Florence. Here is the link:

Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
Re: Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
That was an amateur fight held on September 6.
Re: Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
How about the other 1943 bout?

I just noticed that it was an amateur bout. I can only assume the other bout might have been an amateur match, but I really don't know. I'll try to find something on it.
Re: Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
That's impossible to tell without a Tampa paper. It was a professional card (hence the entry) but they might have had a couple of amateurs as their opening prelim.wsbuf wrote:How about the other 1943 bout?

If the Sept '43 fight is a amateur fight then June '43 must be too?
Re: Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
It's not as clearcut at that. In pre-war Florida, it was not uncommon for prelim fighters to travel back and forth between pros and amateurs, depending on the locality they fought.wsbuf wrote:If the Sept '43 fight is a amateur fight then June '43 must be too?

So, if he fought pro in June, would the Sept fight still be considered an amateur fight?
Re: Billy Kilgore Missing Fight
Yes, amateur is amatuer, pro is pro.DavidEpstein wrote:So, if he fought pro in June, would the Sept fight still be considered an amateur fight?
