Amir Khan against the best at 140
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
agreed, dioufy. we should count the wins over gurov (ahead on points vs prime mormeck, lost by late stoppage, definitely a top 10 cruiser), fragomeni (went on to win WBC title incl some tremendous wars with wlod and erdei), mormeck (undisputed champ, pretty much, despite getting old he was the man to beat) and enzo (power punching WBO holder, the fight everyone wanted to see at cruiserweight).
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
And I'm also curious why people, especially on here, believe that Maidana is some kind of beast. He's a limted puncher, IMO. Of course, he could beat Khan; as anyone else who could punch could, but to me, Khan would dominate Maidana and force a pretty early stoppage. I even believe Urnago would have a better chance of beating Khan that Maidana has. Perhaps even Ortiz, too.
Terrible foot-work that boy has (Maidana).

....so Hayes best win is against Enzo your saying?
Now that does say alot for his legacy.....
Thing is. I agree with you......

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
Please show me where I said that? The person said who has fought a puncher who was near their prime since Lewis; I said Haye, because as far as I know, Enzo Macc was a puncher near his prime, before Haye chinned him. As was Gurov, Frago and Mormeck.tonyevs wrote:....so Hayes best win is against Enzo your saying?
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
enzo mac was carefully moved but let's not forget there was a demand for the fight, it was televised by both setanta and showtime, and enzo was quite well regarded at the time, bringing something (WBO title) to the fight.
more ppl were interested in haye v mac than haye v cunningham, a quality american who lacks a following and isn't always the most exciting.

But you'll agree that he was a "puncher who was near their prime?"Autobarn wrote:enzo mac was carefully moved but let's not forget there was a demand for the fight, it was televised by both setanta and showtime, and enzo was quite well regarded at the time, bringing something (WBO title) to the fight.

Yes. Enzo was ... but was he as well regarded as say .. a Ruddock or a McClellan? of course he wasn`t ... well not outside of Britain he certainly was not.
He was seen as an even match for Haye simply because of Hayes percieved lack of chin and stamina ... not because he was a future hall of famer.
Much the same as Lacy was seen as good enough to dethrone Calzaghe because more to do with Calzaghes age, bad hands etc.
Of course you could scrape the barrel and be silly and look at almost any guys fight record and pick an unbeaten guy with a good Ko record on there who he had beaten ... but of course you would really know thats not what was meant.

I agree, although not about the early stoppage.Dioufy wrote:And I'm also curious why people, especially on here, believe that Maidana is some kind of beast. He's a limted puncher, IMO. Madiana is extremely limited and easy to hit, and I think Khan would stop him late after dominating the fight. I suspect Khan would start off cautiously, and thus will not let the heavy artillery go until a bit later on in the fight.
Khan can obviously be hurt when he is hit, but he hasn't been hit with a good shot since joining with Roach. You can't hurt what you can't hit, and given how slow and telegraphed Maidana is, he will have a very difficult time landing anything.
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
I don't care what anybody says, Enzo Macc was held in high regard by a lot of boxing fans, even me, who's anti-Macca. Of course, he's not as well regarded at Ruddock, but where did I ever say otherwise? You're putting a whole lot of words into my mouth there, matey.tonyevs wrote:Dioufy wrote:But you'll agree that he was a "puncher who was near their prime?"Autobarn wrote:enzo mac was carefully moved but let's not forget there was a demand for the fight, it was televised by both setanta and showtime, and enzo was quite well regarded at the time, bringing something (WBO title) to the fight.
