Don't you mean Hector Camacho and Micky Ward are coming to Cardiff. That sounds more attractive.

I've heard if you phone up Henry Akinwande's mobile it automatically puts you on hold.

No website?
Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
Let's hope Camacho sounds better than he did here in 1987 when he attended Marsh-Kameda.
Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
Wish I lived in Cardiff, always wanted to meet Micky Ward and grab a photo.

I thought he sounded very charasmatic back than!bennie wrote:Let's hope Camacho sounds better than he did here in 1987 when he attended Marsh-Kameda.
I know young 12 year old Naseem Hamed was so besotted by the style and flamboyance of Camacho who at 25 was in his prime back than, that he took to modelling his whole persona on Hector.Everything from the trunks and the silly effeminate jeri curl at the front of his hair. But he didnt have hectors looks or natural style.
Im amazed more people didnt pick naseem up on it. But I guess it was the pre internet age in the UK back in 1993-98.
Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
its a good idea bringing hector over, but I really think the promoters/organisers of this should check
a) hector isnt violating any parole ruling
b) he will get a visa to come into the UK given his drugs and crime past
c) he doesnt owe any alimony or child agency payments.
Its a good idea but y'all need to check that shittt
Hector is a great fighter and inspiration. A man still winning and active in his late 40's. he has become a role model on how to last long in this business. No one ever saw hector get beat up. He's still pretty at 48-49 and he's still a bad mutha who could knock out anyone on this forum.A true legend with more talent in his prime than 90% of fighters who ever lived

Also Larry O, Tony Bellew and Paul Smith would probably stand up to his Bombs.

i'd come forward at him wearing a Rosario mask, he'd run like fvck i guarantee
Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
He was horribly slurred, Mugabi, and there were rumours of cocaine abuse. I like Camacho. He has a great chin, New York balls, and quick hands; however, he also has a trashy side to him. Nobody is perfect.mugabi wrote:I thought he sounded very charasmatic back than!bennie wrote:Let's hope Camacho sounds better than he did here in 1987 when he attended Marsh-Kameda.

Naz went on to be a better fighter than Hector.Hector couldn't punch, which cost him at top level.I also heard that Pernell Whitaker smashed him up in sparring when they were both in their prime. Also, Trinidad did a job on him.He had a lot of talent though, and a fantastic chin, and a colourful personality. Will be worth going to.

True.I was being a bit harsh there, but I did hear an intereview with Emmanuel Steward that said a young up and coming whitacker absolutely hammered Hector, although sparring is not the same as a real bout.I thought Chavez had his measure though.Counter-puncher wrote:not really fair, Camacho was probably 3 years or more past peak at that point?big lennox wrote:.Also, Trinidad did a job on him.

And he became a 'runner' after the scare in the Rosario fight, though managed to redeem himself in the eyes of those who'd questioned his heart when he went 12 with Chavez , who was 81-0 at the time (!!).big lennox wrote:Naz went on to be a better fighter than Hector.Hector couldn't punch, which cost him at top level.I also heard that Pernell Whitaker smashed him up in sparring when they were both in their prime. Also, Trinidad did a job on him.He had a lot of talent though, and a fantastic chin, and a colourful personality. Will be worth going to.

Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
both Camacho and Whitaker had an awful lot of speed, talent and skill, but i believe Pea was much better technically and terms of in-ring IQ, so it wouldn't necessarily surprise me.big lennox wrote:

Whitaker's never had his dues - think he'd have given Mayweather huge trouble.Counter-puncher wrote:both Camacho and Whitaker had an awful lot of speed, talent and skill, but i believe Pea was much better technically and terms of in-ring IQ, so it wouldn't necessarily surprise me.big lennox wrote:

Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
Oh yeah my relatively long amateur career is 20-15 years gone and my dabbling in judo means nothing. Hector is another level even at 48. Even if id been a pro and was 25 now hector would still smash my face in. He's a bad mutha.Jeff Thomas wrote:Including you?mugabi wrote:its a good idea bringing hector over, but I really think the promoters/organisers of this should check

Absolute legend mate! I'll PM you my email address. Obviously I'd like to have my photo taken with him but would definitely not say no to a signed picCardiff-Lad1 wrote:I'm sure i can sort that out for you (signed photo as opposed to a photo with him!), PM me your email address and i'll email you closer to the time once all the fight photos etc have been printed ready to be signed on the night. chavez completely dominated that fight.Deserter wrote:And he became a 'runner' after the scare in the Rosario fight, though managed to redeem himself in the eyes of those who'd questioned his heart when he went 12 with Chavez , who was 81-0 at the time (!!).big lennox wrote:Naz went on to be a better fighter than Hector.Hector couldn't punch, which cost him at top level.I also heard that Pernell Whitaker smashed him up in sparring when they were both in their prime. Also, Trinidad did a job on him.He had a lot of talent though, and a fantastic chin, and a colourful personality. Will be worth going to.
he may have lasted the distance against chavez.
but he never really redeemed himself on that performance.
more interested in surviving again. :>
Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
Hitman, you're contradicting yourself. Chavez did indeed dominate and as a result Camacho had to suck up more sustained punishment than he'd ever had to in his career to date - he wasn't able to run and avoid being hit. People who'd questioned his heart were therefore suprised that he stayed in there for 12 when it was so one-sided it would have been easy to quit at some stage.hitman_hatton1 wrote:chavez completely dominated that fight.Deserter wrote:And he became a 'runner' after the scare in the Rosario fight, though managed to redeem himself in the eyes of those who'd questioned his heart when he went 12 with Chavez , who was 81-0 at the time (!!).big lennox wrote:Naz went on to be a better fighter than Hector.Hector couldn't punch, which cost him at top level.I also heard that Pernell Whitaker smashed him up in sparring when they were both in their prime. Also, Trinidad did a job on him.He had a lot of talent though, and a fantastic chin, and a colourful personality. Will be worth going to.

There's a difference between a boxer who "fights scared", as Camacho was accused of doing post-Rosario on the basis that even when he was winning fights we wouldn't commit for fear of being caught, and a fighter who is forced into 'survival' mode simply because he is outgunned by a superior opponent.
On this occasion while Camacho switched into survival mode once he realised there was no way to win the fight, he still chose to hang in for the full 12 rather than quit on his stool, for example.
Even Chavez himself praised Camacho's "heart":

Re: Hector Camacho is coming to Cardiff!
i agree with des, there are many fighters who ended up quitting against JCC after the kind of beating Camacho took off him.
