I favor Simpson. Smith has not fought anyone at the pro level. Everyone of his opponents has had a terrible losing record or a winning record with many losses. This is a big step up in class. Simpson is an excellent domestic level fighter and is tough as nails. It's like taking a couple big leaps on a ladder...if you don't step carefully you will fall right off. Golden Boy Promotions makes this mistake often, they have their guys fight too many easy fights and then they jump up their competition without putting some fights in the middle to help them develop. Surprised Warren made this fight.
smith a bit of a hold and spoil merchant from tonights showing, everyone was making him out to be the second coming on here before the fight, very average on tonights showing, lucky boy to be going home with his record intact
I had john with about 4 points, he took smith into deep waters the 2nd half of the fight and the kid showed great heart to keep going but did use the hit and hold tactic that Hatton used against Lazcano for the last few rounds. On the undercard young Liam Smith was in a fantastic little scrap. You have to feel sorry for John Simpson though and I wont be surprised if he says f*** it and packs the sport in.

He may be the second coming in 15 fights time! You cant really win,if Fwank would have got him to 20-0 before beating some African for some inter-continental everyone would be slagging him off.Wether you think he won or not(i had it level) he took the fight after 10 bouts and came away with the victory.

This is the thing though, Stephen was pretty poor and beat John Simpson. When Stephen boxed the rounds were simple to score. Simpson couldn't cover the ground and was falling short with everything. When a hand goes in a fight, AND a cut appears it tells a lot of a fighter's character. Stephen won, beat a very good kid and is Commonwealth champion.

Whilst watching the fight was slightly disappointed in the holding tactics from Smith but a broken hand would explain that and when he boxed he boxed beautifully. I think the thing that people needto take note of is Swifty showed great intangables from a fighter being thrown in at the deep end. His boxing will get better and better but what we know is he can go the 12 round distance has a decent chin took some good shots from Simpson and has the heart and strength to come back from adverity vuts and a broken hand in a hostile venue. Though the performance might not have been impressive i think those attributes from a "novice" fighter are

people will see how good this win is when Simpson beats Lindsay. I told Stephen the same!! he come through a test with a broken hand and a cut for the first time!! Kid deserves credit and is his own worst critic!! He done brilliant especially considering the implications!!

Dont no why everyone keeps bangin on about the cut and broken hand and the number of fights smith has had ,each fight should be judged on the performance of both fighters over each round boxed on the night and Simpson certainly did not loose that fight! injurys and cuts are cleary a big part of the sport, but these things happen and like i said no way did simpson lose that fight .

Everyone must have been spiked with acid then, because we're all certain Stephen had his hand raised and left with a shiny new belt.
Your opinion on the scoring is just that - YOURS. Two out of the three all important judges' opinions said Stephen won the fight by performance in each round as you say.

was victor on acid on saturday as well?
Nope, but Victor saw Stephen's hand raised and saw him win the fight.
You said "NO WAY DID SIMPSON LOSE THAT FIGHT"
He did.

It was a good close fight which neither side could have argued whatever the result - it was one of them.
I thought Smith was humble in his interview and at least he offered a possible rematch in the future - which would be another good fight.
Guys - the fight result was hardly the controversy of the century.
Im not knockin smith ,i agree he gave a great interview and to offer rematch was very decent of him,but i always believed that to take the belt from the champ in his own backyard you had to go there and win well, and imo he did not do that. simpson again on the wrong end of tight call and he must be gutted never seems to get any of the close calls surely as champ he deserved that.
