Credit to Amir for taking the Maidana fight - I didn't think he would.

Problem is, I think he may get laid out again.... although I hope he doesn't.

Will people stop knocking him now?

Come on Amir!

Amir Khan is a very clever fighter and freddie Roach will come up with a brilliant plan. Maidana has lost before to someone Khan dominated so will be a very interesting fight.

No. If he wins, the critics will just say Maidana was a one-dimensional slugger who couldn't even stop a shot DeMarcus Corley.

(Actually, even though I rate and like Khan, I would probably agree with the above. It's just that so many people have been pushing for Maidana because they want to see Khan in with a puncher again, but I'm sure they'll do an about-face if Khan wins)

I can see the fight now, maidana gets knocked down, gets up and is fine only for khan to unload a super fast flurry of eye catching punches......fight over without even getting hit properly then tells us all that there is nothing wrong with his chin because he just beat a massive puncher.

I'm sure the Corley showing has helped get the fight made.

However, I don't think anyone can complain about Khan taking this fight, and I think he'll win it quite handily.

Yeah Amir deserves credit for taking this fight, it's the type of fighter that Amir will have trouble against, but I reckon he's learnt enough to box Maidanas ears off.......... and stop him

COME ON AMIR!!!!

Should he deserve credit for taking on a mandatory challenger? This isn't a big fight and Maidana isn't the power puncher he's being made out to be - sure he's got a lot of TKO's but who were they against? Ortiz was still very much an untested prospect.

He lost to Kotelnik and couldn't get a shop worn Corely out of there.

It should be a routine performance for Khan with no real surprises.

This is the one people were moaning about him ducking. Winner of this takes on winner of Alexander/Bradley. I have no complaints, we have a decent Brit fighting at the top.

Come on Khan!

Like the fact that he's fighting Maidana but he clearly isn't as good or as hard puncher as originally thought. Roach will have a plan perfectly set out for Khan and as long as Khan sticks to it he will win easily.

Wasn't Ortiz winning the fight before he wimped out? I think Ortiz would give Khan more trouble.

If Khan beats Maidana I hope that he does fight the winner of Bradley - Alexander to really prove his worth I don't see if Khan beats Maidana as a big win for him. The big wins will be the likes of Ortiz, Alexander and Bradley, but it does seem like a weight class lacking superstars now that the big names have moved up weights, inactive or retired.

People can now start hedging their bets by taking some cedit away from Maidana - but Khan will remain in constant danger as long as Maidana is standing.

Maidana is very crude - but can punch hard enough to ko the fragile chinned Khan at anytime.
Khan is superbly skilled and looks fantastic on offence - but has that terrible flaw of his legs turning to jelly with the slightest tap.

Khan does not deserve great credit for taking this fiight - its the type of fight champions should be taking anyway.

So what would you prefer he go out at the first bell, drop his union jack shorts, and ask MAidana to hit him hard, and than having given a free knockdown get back up and win on points.......would that satisfy you that his chin is good?

Khan has time and time again shown he can get hit and come back and like he says it happened at 135 cos he was weak making weight.

Anyone who has been in the ring knows u dont need to prove you have a chin. The point is hitting and not getting hit and if u do get hit coming back, more less every boxer at some level does that. Look at Mitchell he boxed Prescott beautifully the way Amir should have. But than look at the Katsides fight where he gets hit early and just becomes like jelly over nothing and than is brutally knocked out.

It can happen to anyone. In Amir's case i think he can kayo Prescott and thats a fight he must surely make soon.

Is Maidana a bit like Carlos Maussa - one good stoppage win over a known 140 pounder but crude with a limited skill set?

all in its context, my dear boy.

you will, of course, remember many, many posters saying they wouldn't respect Khan unless he faced his mandatory/ Maidana/ a full lightwelter/ someone with a punch/ etc etc

of course, you wouldn't have been one of those, as you've always been so supportive of Khan.

but surely its fair to say those posters mentioned should give Khan the 'respect' they suggested they would.

frankly though you just seem to get your knickers in a knot any time anyone says anything remotely positive about Khan.

It's a massive improvement on Amirs trend of fighting small-punching or lower weighted fighters......... I agree he shouldn't be getting credit for fighting this type of opponent as it should be the nornm (in our eyes), but in the same breath he could've wormed out of this fight if he wanted to.

We all know that Amir isn't the most durable of fighters and Maidana is the type of fighter who can expose his frailties, unlike Mallignaggi, that Jewish geeza and every fighter that Amirs fought other than Prescott

It's Amirs first step on his way to greatness IMO..... followed by Alexander then Bradley then the welter division

khan just doesn't do it for me, put down by Limond, gomez and destroyed by Prescott.

I just struggle to get excited by his fights. The win over Kontelink was one of the most boring fights i've ever seen.

The bloke has no charisma and to be honest as harsh as it may seem but i really don't care if he losses.

what are you on about,he's only been hit by one decent lightweight puncher and we know the outcome of that,i will never be convinced his chin is good until he gets whacked and he gets up or stays up,i don't doubt his boxing ability just giving my opinion of what will happen should the fight go ahead

I don't bother with the fools here who do nothing but criticize everything Khan does for some twisted reason.

Khan has matured a lot recently and even coming across well in interviews which was something he didn't particulary do before more due to his young age.

Post Prescott you can't really fault his career too much the way he's built himself back up...sure he isn't as exciting to watch now as he was before his loss but the way he fights now means he gets hit a lot less.

Maidana is the 4th best Light Welterweight out there behind Alexander, Bradley and Khan himself so he's a very good opponent to take and Amir has already stated he wants Bradley or Alexander next so all credit to him as if he beats those 3 he'll be sure to be in the P4P top 10.

I don't think Khan has shown any weaknesses in the chin department since losing to Prescott, in fact I'd wager it's better now he's fighting at the higher weight. While he'll never be Marvin Hagler in the chops area I don't think he's as vulnerable as people make out. Plus, the defensive improvements he's made stand him in good stead for if he does get hurt. Also, apart from the Prescott debacle he showed he could fight back after being hurt too.

He'll beat Maidana and then everyone will be going on about how DeCorley exposed him. Khan'll never be able to win. I mean, none of the other fighters at 10st would have done the job Khan did on Kotelnik, not even Bradley, yet all we heard was that Kotelnik couldn't punch! Well tell Devon Alexander the guy can't punch.
