Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
I would have Ricky Burns at 4 after his defeat of one of the best fighters in his division for a world title.
Junior Witter has not fought in over a year and hasnt won in even longer so shouldnt be on the list at all.
I would have Magee above Hatton and Brook.
I would have McCloskey a bit higher.
Andy Lee hasnt beat anyone of note so shouldnt be on the list.

Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
I would have John Murray swapping places with Macklin.
Matthew Hatton lower, Magee should be above him. Witter much lower due to inactivity.
Chisora, McCloskey and Jason Booth all higher just outside the top 10 maybe.
All imo.

Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Ricky Burns has just beaten Ring magazine's no 2 Super-Featherweight.Nothing Munroe or Cleverley have done compares to that.
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
McCloskey should be above Witter and Mitchell. The list has a much better shape about it now.
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
I'd have Burns around #10. I can understand the high ranking due to the title.
I didn't rate Martinez when he fought Cook. He hits very hard and can take alot of punishment, but he's technically awful. He was always there for the taking if the big hits could be avoided. This fight showed us Martinez's level more than Burns's imo. Great win for Burns but I don't consider either of them to be in the ''World Class'' category.
I hope Burns can continue to improve as he isn't too far off the top but I fear his reign may be short lived (unless that Polish guy is made mandatory and he takes a similar level voluntary). He may be able to make some inroads into the division, and justify a high ranking, as it isn't very strong right now. I expect there will be a few moving up from FW soon who would be a bridge too far for Burns.

I agree. Just wish Afolabi would hurry up and have a fight. Everything else is very tidy. Its coming together horseDeno1986 wrote:The list has a much better shape about it now.

Cleverly is too high at 4. I think his EBU win should have been more about consolodating his top ten ranking.

Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Why is Nicky Cook still ranked?
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Burns win against Martinez was very good. However, he had not been fighting good opposition leading up to that fight, and he was struggling against domestic level opposition before that. I didn't think one good win was enough to put him above all of the other fighters with World class wins.bluenoseshf wrote:I would have Ricky Burns at 4 after his defeat of one of the best fighters in his division for a world title.
If he defends against a good fighter in December then he has a good chance of going higher.
Witter plans on making a comeback, so I will leave him in the rankings for now.bluenoseshf wrote:Junior Witter has not fought in over a year and hasnt won in even longer so shouldnt be on the list at all.
Magee climbed 9 places after beating Aramyan, which I thought was generous considering Aramyan isn't the best opponent. Hatton had just beaten a better fighter in his last fight so I thought he should stay above Magee for now.bluenoseshf wrote:I would have Magee above Hatton and Brook.

McCloskey fights Morrison this month. He will climb a few places if he wins that fight.
Lee has beaten a few domestic level fighters and has a good win over Belghecham who is a solid European level contender.
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
I think Macklin has the better record at the moment. Murray has probably done slightly more over the last year though, so he may well overtake Macklin after his next fight.Neri wrote:I would have John Murray swapping places with Macklin.
I think Hatton's recent record is better than Magee's.Neri wrote:Matthew Hatton lower, Magee should be above him. Witter much lower due to inactivity.
Witter will move down the list, but if I try to move him down too quickly then the list will become unbalanced.
Chisora's record is not good enough for him to be so high in my opinion, he only has two decent wins (Williams and Sexton).Neri wrote:Chisora, McCloskey and Jason Booth all higher just outside the top 10 maybe.

If McCloskey beats Morrison this month then he will most likely be just about where you say he should be.
Booth lost his last fight, so I didn't think he should move too high up the list based on a loss. When he gets back to winning ways then he will climb higher.

Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Oh just noticed the biggest mistake of all, How the hell is Amir Khan above Carl Froch? Even taking into account the loss to Kessler, his wins over Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell are better than any win Khan has.
Also if Ricky Burns win over Martinez is better than any win Khan has. So Khan can be that high after a number of wins against poor opposition surely Burns should be higher after one big win.

Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Burns' win was good, but his only opponent in the previous 12 months before that fight was Al Hamidi.mickey1975 wrote:Ricky Burns has just beaten Ring magazine's no 2 Super-Featherweight.Nothing Munroe or Cleverley have done compares to that.
Martinez seemed like a limited fighter, and I didn't think a single win over him was enough to put him above Cleverly and Munroe who had been gaining a good number of solid recent wins.

A win over Morrison should be enough to put him above those fighters.Deno1986 wrote:McCloskey should be above Witter and Mitchell.
Thank you.Deno1986 wrote:The list has a much better shape about it now.
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
I wasn't sure where to put Burns after his win over Martinez. It was a win over a WBO champion and a fighter ranked at No. 2 by the Ring magazine, but he did seem rather limited and the type of fighter I could imagine quite a few of the British top 30 P4P beating.JDC wrote:I'd have Burns around #10. I think I got the balance just about right for Burns re-entry position, but I wouldn't argue too much with people putting him anywhere from 4 to 10.

I would have Burns below Matthew Macklin, John Murray and Ryan Rhodes.

Murat was a top 15 ranked fighter in the independent World rankings. Which other fighters in the rankings have a win on that level in the last 12 months, or at all?
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Martinez is not better than Malignaggi and Kotelnik. He best win was over Cook, in a fight he was clearly losing. Kotelnik beat Maidana and the case can be made he beat Alexander. Malignaggi pushed a prime Cotto very close, twice beat N'dou, and clearly outpointed Juan Diaz.bluenoseshf wrote:Oh just noticed the biggest mistake of all, How the hell is Amir Khan above Carl Froch? Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Because he has not retired.robpalmer135 wrote:Why is Nicky Cook still ranked?
Cook will fall out of the rankings in the next few months if he doesn't fight again, so there is no reason to take him out now.
Re: British Top 30 P4P October 2010
Froch does have the better overall record, but Khan has done more over the last year so he managed to sneak ahead. If Froch beats Abraham in November then he will go ahead of Khan and quite possibly take the top spot as well.bluenoseshf wrote:Oh just noticed the biggest mistake of all, How the hell is Amir Khan above Carl Froch? Like crusader suggested: Burns win over Martinez is not better than Khan's wins over Malignaggi or Kotelnik in a lot of people's opinions.crusader wrote:Martinez is not better than Malignaggi and Kotelnik. I'd have Munroe (actually won the EBU title against a champion and beaten men ranked in the top ten independently) and Burns certainly ahead of him (beat the #1 or #2 ranked Super Feather). I also think Rhodes could be moved ahead of him (holds a win over a guy ranked in the top ten independently). Although I would keep him above Macklin, Murray and Brook.
So 6 or 7.
