You're completely right lefty. I was chatting to one this morning who told me that the Klitschko presser will get a full turnout but that a lot of the 'big' national writers are blanking Haye's do because there's nothing to be reported, if you like.

A couple of weeks back Wayne Rooney did his first press work since Brassgate, on the back of a new ES Sports game with his name on it. People swallowed the blatant product plug just to get a few minutes with Shrek, who hadn't been doing interviews. But Haye and this iPhone thing is a completely different kettle of fish. He's been doing a lot of press work recently anyway and the big papers don't actually need to speak to him this week, least of all about a bloody iPhone app.

Sky Sports News will no doubt be there, give the gadget a plug, and so it will be job done as far as David and Adam are concerned. But is it newsworthy? Is it feck. Tomorrow's sports pages will be full of Rooney and Champions League, they don't need David. He might have stood a better chance had he staged his conference on Thursday, like FW has for Klitschko-Chisora — that was a move born of experience and knowledge of the way the newspaper industry works. Boxing can never compete with football, that's a fact.

I love how Audley Harrison's opponents - and particularly Rogan - are often referred to by their day jobs, as if that makes them lesser boxers. Probably 90% of boxers have second jobs, as it's only the top level who earn enough from boxing to make a living from that alone.

When Audley was on the way up and all the tabloids were sniping at him (typically in articles written by football reporters), they always trotted out the line about the opponent's second job - "butcher" Mark Krence, "doorman" Dominic Negus, etc, as if they were just members of the public he'd hauled into the ring to fight. But then put Rogan and Krence in with Skelton and the day jobs become part of the "human interest" angle to the fight, and part of the opponent's "character".

You can apply the same methodology to the majority of any fighter's record, given that, as I said, most boxers earn a living elsewhere. Hell, even some high-level boxers do. You can bet if Rendall Munroe pulls off the upset this weekend, him being a binman will be used as a positive aspect to the story (and rightly so), rather than as a criticism against Nishioka. Back to Rogan, him being a taxi driver WAS used as a positive angle in his case when he beat Harrison - but, of course, at the same time it has remained a stick to beat Audley with.

I can see it now. Harrison beats "Versace model" David Haye...
