Re: Your favourite rounds of boxing?
even though they werent eventful rounds haye vs maccarinelli was just edge of your seat stuff as you knew one of them would get knocked out. Round 2 of calzaghe vs byron mitchell is fantastic. amir khan vs michael gomez is brilliant too

It was a great punch, with awesome power.yid14 wrote:Hearns knockout against Duran is the best single punch ever. My favoutite round is Chavez 12th round against Meldrick Taylor 2 seconds to go! That's what the '0' means.banjo wrote:Hearns v Duran Rounds 1 and 2 - watching Hearns brush aside a man as tough as Duran as if he was nothing is still mesmorising today.
However, I prefer the punch that Ray Robinson threw to knockout Gene Fuller. The perfect left hook, timing, accuracy and power. Terrific punch.

Re: Your favourite rounds of boxing?
I'll give a shout for:
Witherspoon - Holmes rd 9. youtube it if you ain't seen it. Holmes hurt badly with a couple of shots to head- with one behind the ear then one to the jaw i think it was- then he takes a nasty nasty bodyshot, THEN after Spoon punches himself out Holmes comes back with a huge rally stunning Spoon.
my favourite ever round of heavyweight boxing.
others, best i have seen live: final round of Rhodes - Moore
final round of James McKinley - John Musgrove a 4 rounder at the aston leisure centre. brilliant fight they topped off by having an absolute row for 3 minutes in the last, ring pelted with coins from about 10 seconds before the end.

Re: Your favourite rounds of boxing?
You guys are well out of my league with your world knowledge of boxers, but I will throw a domestic undercard fight in the mix, 2nd round of Celloe Renda vs Paul Samuels on the Matthew Hatton vs N'dou undercard. No quality what so ever just pure brawling and a classic double knock down.
Fantastic entertainment.
But overall, Hagler Hearns first round was absolute battle. You knew watching that it wasn't going to last long and it was all about who had the better chin.

You can pick any round from Eduard vs Willie Gibbs.
Hagler vs Leonard round 9 (I always say it). I scored the round to Hagler though. Fight to Leonard.

Nas v Kelley, could be any of the 4 but 4th round for me was one of the most exciting you can get.

I've always liked Calzaghe v Mitchell Round 2 - first time calzaghe had been put down and first time mitchell was stopped i think.

Calzaghe showing he was more dangerous when tagged.

Again I can't remember the exact round, but there was a beauty in Gomez Vs Arthur

The mad, bad, crazy Aaron The Hawk Pryor, maybe the greatest lightwelter of all time.stevek3lly wrote: Hook. I am not familiar with Pryor, I have checked the others out and you have some good shouts there. Who is he?
Apart from the Blackmoore demolition, check out his 7 round war with Dujuan Johnson. He gets knocked down and comes back to win, as he often did. Against Kameda, he's knocked down, somersaults back up and hits Kameda back before the ref can even count.
His 1st battle with the legendary Alexis Arguello was one of the greatest fights ever seen.

Check out the sidestep and right cross in the Hart fight, around round 6 I think. One of the best pieces of skill I've ever seen in a boxing ring...
Bit of a Pryor geek, got a lot of his fights on DVD.

Lyle-Foreman Round 4. Maybe not one for the purists but I fail to see how any boxing fan is not entertained by this fight. Non-stop slugging mayhem

Saad-Muhammed-Lopez II Round 8...Just one of the ATG rounds, 2 warriors in absolute beast mode. Love this fight.

Surprised there's been no mention of Bowe-Holyfield 1 round 10 yet?
Tyson-Holyfield 1 round 6 stands out from when I watched it live. It won't be up there for action but I remember starting to get a real sense that it was Holy's night, a chant for him started & then he put Tyson down. Call me sad but goosebump stuff at the time.

Re: Your favourite rounds of boxing?
Spoilt by a premature stoppage unfortunately. I think the referee robbed Joe of real glory there by denying him the opportunity to finish it in style and conclusively.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Joe Calzaghe v Bryon Mithcell Round 2: Calzaghe gets dropped for the first time in his career, gets up puts Mitchell down, Mitchell gets up and Calzaghe stops him

Benn v logan Rd 2 was a mad round, Benn was out of it and just came back with a left hook that started around his ankles.

Re: Your favourite rounds of boxing?
Me too, what a fight that would have been. Maybe it could have happened, Pryor was really a lightweight, but couldn't get a shot at the 135 title, so moved to 140 and demolished the brilliant Antonio Cervantes, who'd made about 20 defences of his title.Deserter wrote:What I would give to see a prime Aaron Pryor versus a prime Roberto DuranMightyWarrior wrote:The mad, bad, crazy Aaron The Hawk Pryor, maybe the greatest lightwelter of all time.
