Chris Norrad is my brother!Ric wrote:It looks a bit odd to me, when reviewing the Canadian cruiserweight rankings, that a guy like Chris Norrad (5-0-0) is rated below two guys with with 1-0 records (Ryan Ford and Taylor Bull)--even after clicking those two boxers' opponents' records. Something doesn't quite seem right about that.

Can someone please explain why Jimmy Bivins is #4 in the All Time Heavyweight Ratings? This is just plain wrong.

how much work would it be to provide the user with an option to view the database at a certain point in time?

What do you mean with - to view the database at a certain point in time, please?MatthewS wrote:how much work would it be to provide the user with an option to view the database at a certain point in time?
Re: Boxrec Ratings - Read first before commenting on the ratings
if I wanted to know what the database - had it existed at that point in time - looked at on say 1st Jan 1955... as opposed to the All-Time ratings. I guess this would mean 'running' the bout calculation from year dot and then stopping it once all bouts prior to that date had occured...computerrank wrote:What do you mean with - to view the database at a certain point in time, please?MatthewS wrote:how much work would it be to provide the user with an option to view the database at a certain point in time?
also, any chance of being able to produce a boxers points progression through his career as one line graph?

I have read his record. There is nothing in that record that qualifies him to be rated #4 Heavy.

What he's trying to tell you is that he was set to the wrong division for all-time calculations. He is now at Light Heavy.

- ratings on Jan 1 for every year -> would mean to store 2 additional values (division and points) for every boxer and every year - this would be millions of additional values to be updated and stored every day -> overloadMatthewS wrote:if I wanted to know what the database - had it existed at that point in time - looked at on say 1st Jan 1955... as opposed to the All-Time ratings. - one line graph for rating points -> problem: division moves within career

What's the problem?computerrank wrote:- one line graph for rating points -> problem: division moves within career
Here's Amir Khan's:

Points on the left, fight number along the bottom.

The problem is, that the points decrease / increase technically in case of weight division step-up / step-down.Asterix wrote:What's the problem?computerrank wrote:- one line graph for rating points -> problem: division moves within career

But it'll only be after they've had a fight that division, right?computerrank wrote:The problem is, that the points decrease / increase technically in case of weight division step-up / step-down.Asterix wrote:What's the problem?computerrank wrote:- one line graph for rating points -> problem: division moves within career

In which case I think it's fine. I'd really like to see it, especially for the boxers with a lot of fights.
Re: Boxrec Ratings - Read first before commenting on the ratings
Would that graph really add any utility, especially considering rating inflation (or even deflation), division changes, etc?
I think an annual Top 50 in each division would be more useful.

You have to run through all the bouts - just as the daily rating program does.MatthewS wrote:tyvm

It needs minutes and binds a lot of computing ressources.
So such requests are not acceptable for a click call by every user - sorry.

Re: Boxrec Ratings - Read first before commenting on the ratings
A corrected release of Boxrec Ratings was just launched.
The requirements for getting additional points were a bit increased for new and low rated boxers below 50 points.
Along the bout history some higher rated boxers are effected too.

Re: Boxrec Ratings - Read first before commenting on the ratings
I noticed this when looking at Margarito's record and thinking, wow, I really thought he'd been coming into fights with higher ratings than that... Then I see the ratings through Pacquaio's history are a lot lower than I remember them, too. Sorry if I'm missing some place where it was explained, but did the new change mostly affect the ratings of a certain group of fighters? And did it mostly cause ratings to go down? What is it that changed, if it can be put simply?
