As old Darkey often used to call it, the "chopping right".jamesmcdonnell wrote:Lennox Lewis for my money is a very underrated puncher, his overhand right/right cross is probably as hard a right hand as has ever been seen in heavyweight boxing when he got full extension on it

One of the single hardest punchers I've seen from the UK, with either hand, is Colin Jones. And Naz of course.
And yes Pat Barrett was an awesome puncher too. Big waste of talent he was. If he was around today, he's one fighter they would have kept Hatton well clear of.
Jimmy Flint was a huge puncher.
Once they woke up, alot of Charlie Magri's opponents said he hit like a lightweight.

Also I am lead to believe it was Pat Barret who taught a young Ricky Hatton the value of body punching. I also remember at one time there was serious talk of a Barret vs Chavez fight.MightyWarrior wrote:And yes Pat Barrett was an awesome puncher too. Big waste of talent he was. Whilst on this subject, I never saw him fight but I understand that Neville Meade was a very good puncher.

Yeah i seem to remember Herbie ranting about it in a post fight interview during the comeback years, all 1 and a half of them. He spoke an awful lot of shit in interviews when he came back.Chopping Right wrote:I'm pretty sure Danny Williams chinned Herbie in sparring prior to the Klitschko calamity in 1999. Caused some longstanding bad blood that was due to be resolved on the BBC a while back, until Herbie got cut against that unknown.

David Haye wants to be recognized in this thread. But let's resist the temptation.

Hayes a mega puncher alright... But nowhere near as competent a banger as hamed. That guy was something else. Lennox was undoubtably heavy handed but who did he stop that was noted for durability? Mercer, McCall, Mason, Bruno, mavrovic, kiltschko, Tua, Holyfield all took his best without visiting the canvas- he was one of my favourite fighters though so no disrespect - he just wasn't quite the puncher people see, to think he was.
Domestically ensley Bingham and Wayne Alexander in my lifetime.
Right now the guys who seem to have good power are Bellew, froch and big David price. There doesn't seem to be any really big hitters anymore though- price being the most destructive and capable of surprising results,

Botha was pretty durable, and the Briggs performance looks good in light of how he took Vitali's best. Although he's been decked nobody had done to Ruddock what Lewis was able to and Rahman was no china chin. And his KOs of Weaver, Grant and Golota were brutal too despite their flaws. I know what you're saying but I think it's a little unfair, especially as Mercer, Tua, Holyfield, Klitshcko, McCall and Mason all had granite chins.Jeff Thomas wrote:Hayes a mega puncher alright... There's defeinitely a few names in there.
Prince Naseem
Nigel Benn
Chris Eubank
and the likes of Ricky Hatton and Henry Cooper could punch as well.

Georgie Smith.
Only had a brief career, but he was a frightening puncher.
