sonny bill
do the promoters think we are all dills up here in newcastle, why would anyone pay good money to see two very average 4 rounders go around in a main, is this the mundine caravan on the road to pick up the pieces after the wood[no S]debacle, we had a titleholder, young fight up herelast month and there was lucky to be 300 bums on seats, yet it was a good night, fights i mean.keep the rubbish in sydney. all the best
Re: sonny bill
It's going to be another 1st round k.o against a novice. How is he allowed to get away with this? I take it your not going. I think if he boxed in Auckland I'd probably go.patron wrote:do the promoters think we are all dills up here in newcastle, why would anyone pay good money to see two very average 4 rounders go around in a main, is this the mundine caravan on the road to pick up the pieces after the wood[no S]debacle, we had a titleholder, young fight up herelast month and there was lucky to be 300 bums on seats, yet it was a good night, fights i mean.keep the rubbish in sydney. all the best

Re: sonny bill
hello yid14, it is novice against novice,i could understand you going if your a kiwi and the 14 represents your age, but lets be fairdinkum they {promoters] are insulting our intelligence,we,ve got a promoter up here trying to do the right thing, but this garbage might put the final nail in the coffin.all the bestyid14 wrote:It's going to be another 1st round k.o against a novice. Re: sonny bill
I'm English with the mind of a 14 year old and we havent got any boxing in auckland for awhile and id settle for Sonny bill knocking out a novice with a half decent undercard.patron wrote:hello yid14, it is novice against novice,i could understand you going if your a kiwi and the 14 represents your age, but lets be fairdinkum they {promoters] are insulting our intelligence,we,ve got a promoter up here trying to do the right thing, but this garbage might put the final nail in the coffin.all the bestyid14 wrote:It's going to be another 1st round k.o against a novice. the way the world is going we might be better off looking through the eyes of a 14 year old, my kiwi brother in law gets dirty on me when i tell him he talks like a pom, don,t they have club fights over there regularly,?all the bestyid14 wrote:I'm English with the mind of a 14 year old and we havent got any boxing in auckland for awhile and id settle for Sonny bill knocking out a novice with a half decent undercard.patron wrote:hello yid14, it is novice against novice,i could understand you going if your a kiwi and the 14 represents your age, but lets be fairdinkum they {promoters] are insulting our intelligence,we,ve got a promoter up here trying to do the right thing, but this garbage might put the final nail in the coffin.all the bestyid14 wrote: It's going to be another 1st round k.o against a novice. Re: sonny bill
A lil birdy told me he's fighting scott lewis, the bloke who stopped carl webb.
Re: sonny bill
Who else can see a pattern forming here?? SBW will stay with the AB's until the world cup enhance his rep now hes an AB go back to Europe and cash in on the fact hes a former All black etc no bout make mega bucks over there while boxing here and there then follow the route of Mundine and go boxing fulltime he can no doubt see the coin earned by Anthony boxing and i think he'll follow a similar path. All hes doing right now by boxing once MAYBE twice a year is doing his apprentiship whilst still earning the big bucks playing footy. BIG coin in europe whilst playing at a easier less intense level than in Southern Hemisphere............
Re: sonny bill
Neither man has fought a six rounder yet and this is a main event. If you are keeping your money in your wallet you are a wise man, Patron. ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)
Re: sonny bill
Dunny Bill, being a member of Mundine's ship of fools is following his mentor's credo in "never giving a sucker an even break".
Someone needs to tell the greedy Dunny that if you lie down with dogs you get fleas!

Re: sonny bill
Webb is a disputed 6 feet and weighed in at 17 stone for the fight against Lewis. Good size for a prop, but too heavy at his height for a boxer.iron rhino wrote:A lil birdy told me he's fighting scott lewis, the bloke who stopped carl webb.
Re: sonny bill
beltane,
but instead of fleas bill is getting ca$h.
i don't see a problem with it. if people will pay to watch him in these silly fights then whats wrong with sonny letting them?
the people handing over their money r the only ones to blame.

Re: sonny bill
yep- gives new meaning to the word cash cow. good on SBW as he and his ring masters understand that there are plenty of gullible suckers attracted to circus fights. Hmmmmbuster007 wrote:beltane,

Re: sonny bill
Wow, now it's been removed, It had SBW vs Scott Lewis in England headlining....Every now and then i check the English schedule and low and behold this fight at 12pm last night was on the UK schedule.
I thought Boxing was finished.

Re: sonny bill
SBW V Kimbo Slice- a "footy player" with a stiff head and no real head movement in stunning shape fighting a half arse mug of a street fighter, struggling to make a living in unarmed combat sport: makes for a very even fight. SBW seems like a heck of a nice guy and might be a bout which will sell very well albeit for the novelty factor.
Re: sonny bill
Has there actually been talk of that fight happening, or are you just throwing out an idea?Rogue wrote:SBW V Kimbo Slice- a "footy player" with a stiff head and no real head movement in stunning shape fighting a half arse mug of a street fighter, struggling to make a living in unarmed combat sport: makes for a very even fight. Just an idea..... I am not one for circus fights and freak show shit but at least this will allow some degree of evenness and great interest in mainstreamcrusader wrote:Has there actually been talk of that fight happening, or are you just throwing out an idea?Rogue wrote:SBW V Kimbo Slice- a "footy player" with a stiff head and no real head movement in stunning shape fighting a half arse mug of a street fighter, struggling to make a living in unarmed combat sport: makes for a very even fight. Re: sonny bill
Sonny Bill will not have it all his own way if he does fight Lewis. Been told Lewis is takeing his boxing more serious since his win over Webb, Lewis is a big boy and if fit will give Sonny a good showing.

i did like the idea though, good for a giggle.
i think there could be a place for circus stuff like this, but as part of a good card of proper fights. would generate some "mainstream" interest and hopefully get people to realise that boxing is still a good sport to watch at that level and its not always the mundine/mayweather/green/haye type rot that can be handed out to us
Re: sonny bill
Good for a giggle...furthermore rather than bull shit folks with media conferences that boxing will make him a better and "sharper" All Black- might as well say, the NZRU contract money is peanuts, got to cash in on boxing with freak fights etc. No one will hold that against him- cashing in and making a living, a very good one: whats pisses boxing fans off is that all that is done at the expense and mockery of boxing. He's got to make a living and given that there are enough suckers who buy PPV...SBW and co are giving the market exactly what they want. Go SBW V Kimbo and maybe a celeb referee....
Re: sonny bill
Good on SBW. Thats why he achieves what he does...I'd make all the money I can if I was in his position as well. I think the match up is about right. Novice against novice. I don't think it earns PPV though. But suckers pay to see him fight because of his status as an athlete...
Re: sonny bill
First of all, SBW needs boxing to top up his bank account like he needs a third armpit. He is a 25 year old dual international for christs sake. He donated his last purse 50 thousand dollars to charity. I think you will find he did the same in his first fight. His next fight will be his first against a genuine ranked heavy. He says he is keen to test himself in the boxing scene and that is fair enough, footballers have been dabbling in boxing for as long as i can remember. So whats the big deal with all the circus comments? I just had a look at the number 1 boxrec rank for Aussie heavies- Alex Leapai, Alex had his 23rd fight against an opponent with the outstanding record of 0wins and 12 losses and youse reckon SBW makes a mockery of boxing
