Another good list Horse
I would have Booth and Rees higher, Webb in instead of Lee and McDonnell a wee bit lower

Surely Stephen Smith is Britain's premier featherweight?

Not a critcism, just question. How come you include fighters like Andy Lee and Willie Casey in a British list when they are not British in any sense. Ok, Lee was born in London but he is from Limerick and his nationality is Irish. Messrs. Lindsay, McCloskey etc are fine as they are from Northern Ireland and hold BBBofC licenses.

Thanks.alexpaterson wrote:Another good list Horse![]()
Booth could be higher and if he beats Arthur this month then I will move him up a fair few places. Rees hasn't really done much recently, so I think him being much higher in the rankings would be too generous.alexpaterson wrote:I would have Booth and Rees higher, Webb in instead of Lee
Webb has fallen out this month because McIntosh entered the rankings, if he wins his next fight he will probably re-enter.
Lee's opposition has been fairly weak recently, so I can understand you thinking he does not deserve a place in the rankings. If he beats McEwan in March then I think he will have clearly earned his place on the list.
McDonnell overtook Witter, Mitchell, Simpson, McCloskey, Magee, Brook and Hatton because:alexpaterson wrote:and McDonnell a wee bit lower
Witter has been inactive for over 18 months.
Mitchell was destroyed in his last fight and has not achieved anything above British/Commonwealth level.
Simpson has a fairly recent loss against Smith.
McCloskey's recent opposition has been relatively weak.
Magee has only had one opponent in the last 12 months and he wasn't great.
Brook has not reached European level yet.
Hatton hasn't been fighting any of the top domestic fighters in his recent successful run, whereas McDonnell beat Napa who was the No. 1 British Bantamweight at the time.

ay horse fook off with ur ginger top 30 :!:
Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
Lindsay was ranked as the No. 1 Featherweight before Simpson beat him, so I think Simpson is No. 1 now.Chris W 1982 wrote:Surely Stephen Smith is Britain's premier featherweight?

Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
I was not sure which Irish fighters were eligible for the British title, so I decided to include all of them.Wake up call wrote:Not a critcism, just question. I put "(Irish)" next to the Irish fighter's names to indicate that they are Irish.

I don't think Groves has done enough to earn a place yet.hurlock wrote:george groves??

Simpson was only the No. 2 ranked Featherweight when Smith beat him and the decision was controversial.diggler wrote:and smith beat simpsonHorse wrote:Lindsay was ranked as the No. 1 Featherweight before Simpson beat him, so I think Simpson is No. 1 now.Chris W 1982 wrote:Surely Stephen Smith is Britain's premier featherweight?

Except that he didnt. I mean not really. Going to Belfast and dominating Lindsay puts clear blue water between the two. We'll soon have this settled anyway!diggler wrote:Horse wrote:Lindsay was ranked as the No. 1 Featherweight before Simpson beat him, so I think Simpson is No. 1 now.Chris W 1982 wrote:Surely Stephen Smith is Britain's premier featherweight?

Head to head results aren't the be all end all. Simpson has the more impressive record overall and the Smith fight could have gone either way.diggler wrote:Horse wrote:Lindsay was ranked as the No. 1 Featherweight before Simpson beat him, so I think Simpson is No. 1 now.Chris W 1982 wrote:Surely Stephen Smith is Britain's premier featherweight?

I do think that the gap between them is too big though.
Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
So Simpson vs Smith II is going to happen soon then? I would rather Simpson moved on to European level, but Simpson vs Smith II is a good fight as well.$wifty wrote:We certainly willTrojans44 wrote:Except that he didnt. I mean not really. Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
I have no problem with John Simpson being above myself, he had a good win last time out and the rematch between us is my chance to move up the ratings again
Yes, purse bids are due on Wednesday for the British and Commonwealth Titles. Date and venue to be confirmed after them.

The gap does seem too big, but I can't raise Smith up the rankings until he fights again.crusader wrote:Head to head results aren't the be all end all. Simpson has the more impressive record overall and the Smith fight could have gone either way.

Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
Reckon the fight has to happen one way or another. Would be nice to see a huge fight for the three titles after John beats Sofiane (sp) but I don't see that happening. Will be interesting to see where Maloney puts on the show in the unlikely event he wins the purse bids.
By the way Swifty- Simpson talks about the fight in this interview:

Thought you might like to read that the respect you have for him is reciprocated. Refreshing change from the usual pre-fight hype bs. This one doesnt need selling.

Re: British Top 30 P4P February 2011
Hadnt seen that mate, was a good read. Yes, the respect is definitely mutual and like u say there is no need for me to bad mouth him, the fight should sell itself! If he moves on for the European then I wish him all the best, either way my next fight will be for the British with me being mandatory and the board ordering it so thats my focus right nowTrojans44 wrote:Reckon the fight has to happen one way or another.
