Sadly, Adam, and this is NOT something I am endorsing at all (ie: "don't shoot the messenger"), that is EXACTLY the case.

Morales is fighting Maidana??? When did that happen? I thought he was going to get murdered by Marquez but Maidana will absolutely brutalise him.

I wouldn't be so sure. No way do I see Morales winning it, but he's had an OK comeback run and still has enough residual skill for it not to be a rout.

But the WBA call it Light-Welter, not Super-Lightweight (which is a WBC thing). However Felix Sturm is the WBA Super-world Super-Middleweight champion..... and I am NOT joking here.

That was different. Back in the 80's and 90's the WBA and WBO recognised anyone who made ten defences of their title as a Super-champion, but it was really only via giving them a commemorative belt. I remember chatting to Brian Mitchell once and he told me he was so proud of his 3 world title belts.... straight away, being an anorak I questioned the 3 and he told me the WBA gave him a special super-champions belt when he got to his 10th defence.

However, they were never billed as-such and they didn't have a regular champ beneath them or any of this stuff.

"T.M.K"
Yes, that's how I remember it, and that was fair enough. As you say, they got a commemorative belt which was more valuable, but it didn't make a vacancy for any other titles beneath it.

Even if that was what now happened, Khan has only made three defences, and he hasn't unified anything, so what is the logic?? No unification, only an ordinary number of defences so far, not even the number one in his division. What is "super" about that?

I know the answer obviously is more money for the WBA, but they should at least have a STATED reason, even if it's just to paper over the money-grabbing motives.

I must seem like some weird WBA-rules-anorak here..... I'm not (I promise), but:

They initially (upon the idea of Lennox Lewis, no less) made the Super-champ status for anyone holding a unified title to take the mandatory period from 12 to 18 months (or 24 if you held 3 titles). That was actually a GOOD move..... sadly they then brough in the Super-world and World two-tier system and the Super-champ HAD to be unified in some way (Hopkins, ODLH or Juan Manuel Marquez (at Featherweight).

Then, around the time of Margarito beating Cotto and then losing to Mosley, then made a new rule which said something like "the super-world title is for any unified champion, or a boxer in rare, special circumstances where the WBA feel he is worthy of the title".

Floodgates? Opened.

Damage? Done.

(it won't be long before every division has a WBC champ and a Diamond champ)

Yes. Especially when the WBA pull this shite. And with the whole "Silver" belt thing with the WBC, I couldn't bring myself to watch the Duddy fight. :shame:

What is a 'Super' world champion?

What happens if a 'Super' world champion loses, does he just become a 'normal' world champion?

I honestly don't know how Kessler was "super" champ in the first place, given he lost to Calzaghe after unifiying and then had to fight for a vacant world title again.

I dont know if he was the super champion was he?I wasnt sure whether that was brought in after ward beat kessler but you're probably right.I wouldnt mind if they called in the interim title because of the super 6 going on but otherwise its a complete joke!

He was super champ when he beat Beyer, which is understandable that's their rules etc

Looking at his record again, it seems the super belt was only on the line when he fought Ward, which makes no sense at all.

Quick google says they promoted him in Nov 2009. My money would be on money i.e. they sanctioned a regular fight:

Nonsense really.

I personally don't think you can justify having more than one world-champ per division if I'm honest. I guess we had to settle for 4 which saddened me, but I went with it. Now that we're getting 4 or 5 per sanctioning body is now too much. I am slowly, but gradually, falling out of love with this sport - I also don't think I'm the only one.

If you put your mind and heart to it you could win "The Little Pecker's WBC Honourable world champion" strap. It's shiny with cum-stains on it.

Just shows that we should judge fighters on their individual characteristics rather than what crappy belt they possess

 i know so many titles with 1 organization
best quote i remember was: "i'm glad i unified the titles" by sam peter after uniting his Full WBC title with Oleg Maskaevs Full WBC title that he had be stripped of then he sued the WBC and was declared champion so there were 2 full WBC champions at the same time

lol well i guess atleast peter showed that he was the true champ in beating maskaev but you're completely right!Boxing really needs some serious rich investor to come in and buy out the sanctioning bodies and restructure the damn thing
