Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Seriosuly though- political reasons? What the hell?????
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Apparently they wanted Kevin to basically sell the arena using his "West Ham" fanbase then pay him peanuts.
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Take a look at FW's latest column (available via the Scene): he's very critical of Mitchell, and says there were no 'political reasons', and that it was all about money.
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Mitchell wants a final payday as Murray will stop him easily!nh1 wrote:Take a look at FW's latest column (available via the Scene): he's very critical of Mitchell, and says there were no 'political reasons', and that it was all about money.

They should make:
Murray vs Rees
Mitchell vs Arthur
Murray vs Rees
Mitchell vs Arthur
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Warren hanging Mitchell out to dry methinks. He's obviously had enough of Mitchell's messing about, definitely saying 'sink or swim'.nh1 wrote:Take a look at FW's latest column (available via the Scene): he's very critical of Mitchell, and says there were no 'political reasons', and that it was all about money.
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Interesting that Kevin's brother Vinny hasn't fought since May last year at Upton Park either. I reckon Barry Hearn shld make a move for the Mitchells - he could put on fights at Brisbane Rd for f**k all (and lets face it, the only Mitchell your likely to see fight at Upton Park is Billy Mitchell. And thats only if he's pissed.)

Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
I got that impression right from the post fight press conference for the Katsidis fight.FW invested heavily in putting it on a plate for Mitchell at Upton Park,he was seething hearing his excuses.I dont think the fight will happen now,FW will want to move Murray on and is hardly going to reward Mitchell after this.TheCobra wrote:Warren hanging Mitchell out to dry methinks. Must be a bit of a wake up call when your own promoter publicly turns against you.
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
You have to love the hypocrisy of a promoter, known for criticising his former charges lack of loyalty, so publically hanging one of his fighters out to dry after a single defeat! Shameful behaviour.

You drove the nail right through with that one!
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
Yep have to agree with this, whatever Kevin has done behind the scenes, be it poor prepapration for the Katsidis fight or anything else, it seems a bit unprofessional to hang one of his own fighters out to dry like that in the press. You don't get on the wrong side of Frank I suppose!earsjohn wrote:You have to love the hypocrisy of a promoter, known for criticising his former charges lack of loyalty, so publically hanging one of his fighters out to dry after a single defeat! Considering retirement apparently. Locked into a 5 fight deal but doesn't like the money offered by Warren. Would be a real shame.

the man gets criticised for padding fighters up & now not looking after them :!:
mitchell is a proffesional, wether he decided to go & party with his purse or get straight back in the gym is he's problem.what a way to crash back on the scene :!:
i dont know how much he was offerd, i cant imagine it being poor :!: not forgetting he got exposed by a man who failed to win the crown.
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
I don't see the problem here. He's been offered half of the purse he got for the Katsidis fight, to fight Murray. That makes sense for a few reasons-
a) it's for the European, not world title like against Katsidis.
b) he's not topping the bill in a major stadium event.
c) he's coming off a loss
d) he was acting like an idiot in the build up to his previous fight regarding the booze and his mrs. if I'm not mistaken.
Basically, I think Frank's done well offering him this fight straight after a defeat. He could've been dumped into a obscure 6 rounder for his comeback but he's got a high-profile fight in which a win could catapult him back onto the world scene. In my opinion he just doesn't fancy the job.

Warren will offer him other fights than just the Murray fight, won't he?Scottrf wrote:Considering retirement apparently. Locked into a 5 fight deal but doesn't like the money offered by Warren. Would be a real shame.
Will there be an expiry date on the contract?
Re: Political Reasons? Mitchell vs. Murray
He probably doesn't want to feel like he's going backwards, but I think he just has to accept the reality of the sort of purse he should be getting for this. Boxing is a tough game and one loss can mean you have to work your way back up. Perhaps he is setting up a bargaining position, or perhaps he just can't cope with defeat and his heart isn't in it.
I dunno Horse, but presumably Warren is losing patience considering his public comments. No idea about the expiry date mate, just linked the article.
