I would agree with you about smith but not bellew.bripez wrote:Being in the "limelight" is a double edged sword - however those who promote themselves on social media must be prepared for the other side of the coin when things don't go to plan.Asterix wrote: It must be hard to take all the criticism when you're in the limelight.
My own opinion is that Smith did not come across well in many of his posts and could often be defensive, argumentative and rude.
Tony Bellew has enjoyed a couple of good years as he boxes lesser opposition, he has enjoyed the plaudits but does not seem to be able to accept negative comments.

Re: paul smith
I've got a deal of respect for Bellew. After the Ovill Mackenzie bout he was on here within a couple of hours answering questions and 'talking' about the fight. He has been ok from what I remember; he does get animated about Danny McIntosh but even that doesn't come across as being 'nasty'.
Re: paul smith
what a great thread :!: a fighter dont like criticism
... who does :!:
what sad bastards follow him on twitter??? i can understand a promoter for fight & show info...but to know what side of the bed someone got out of or to know which plum hangs lower then the other aint about sport is it.

Some of the posters on here have massive knowledge and inside information; I don't always share their point of view but disrespecting them because of that just seems juvenile and rude. Paul Smith is a high level, successful boxer, he does deserve respect (but not idolisation) he is a sportsman, not a God. He didn't seem to mind the disagreement aspect I imagined it was the personal disrespect.
Smith will be referring to the disrespectful comments in his tweet, not the valid criticism. Must be frustrating as well when you've got friends and family (his brothers) logging on regularly to read it all. I know it'd wind me up if I was Paul and our kid was seeing some of the comments.
It doesn't matter that BoxRec has such a good amount of posters compared to the idiots, because all it takes is a few to leave a poor impression. Exactly like with the police.

Not exactly like with the police. They are made up of a good amount of idiots (or class unconscious proletarian half-wits if you prefer), and it's rare for them to leave any kind of good impression. Take it from me, I know.jBacca wrote:This.simon fox wrote:Offering an opinion and criticism is valid, to be honest a couple went past offering opinion or perspective and went into plain disrespect or personal insult. Re: paul smith
i both thought Degale would win (certain things he came out with in the press, he was ultra-confident) and I also wanted him to win. The reason is that in the lead up I read about 3 interviews with Degale and he came across a real nice chap, hard working, down to earth etc....... Smith may well be the same but all that seemed to be going on with Smith was that he seemed to be in a row week in week out with some mush off Boxrec, giving it all this bollox
left right centre and the Scousers were gonna "rape" the bookies.
I like Degale and he has now become one of my favourite fighters to look out for. I think he will become a World Champ he seems to have the right mix of athleticism, skills, dedication. For the record however I wish he would ditch that stupid fcking thing he does after he wins where he puts his glove in the air then does that thing with his head/ neck. It's fckin embarrassing when you root for a fella in a pub and then he mugs you off by doing that and you feel a right tw*t!
Nothing against Smith I'm sure there's still a few quid to be made from the game to reward what he has put in over the years.

Re: paul smith
also i think the thing with criticism is if some plum gives you a hard time (i.e. overly biased or negative about you) to your face (which is unlikely cos it requires 2 testicles) then you can look at him and think, well screw you mush cos look at the state of you.......but when you see the written word in black and white then no matter what you're made of it isn't very nice to take....probably because you appoint it more credence than it is actually worth.
Somebody once said something extremely derrogatory about a friend of mine following an unsuccessful tilt for the title which landed him in hospital overnight but attracted great praise from REAL observers worth listening too such as Jim Watt. The result was that I replied and I got booted off some sh*t hole boxing forum. Soon afterwards I got a genuine apology from the geezer who was extremely sorry and full of praise etc, which was nice, who said he hadn't meant to be rude it was just his style of description. But it was still unpleasant to read the original comments, when there is a personal angle to it. I think they reactivated my account as well but I ain't visited the sh*thole since in any case, and I don't care to either. So I can kinda see exactly where Smith's coming from to be honest.

hello its only my 5th post i only post when it boils my piss
firstly all boxers do deserve respect whether they are dicks or not inc degale (arm thing) what they dont deserve is personal insults if smith had won the majority of posters would have brown nosed him (dont take this personally).

I stopped posting on the forum your talking about cos it went very quiet, I get far more stick on some of the other forums, like I always state, EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion regardless of wether I like it or not... I personally don't mind criticism as it comes with the territory, however if it got personal that's another matter.. I'm a boxing fan and that's the main reason I come on these places, to talk boxing... ;)bripez wrote:chiggsy wrote:I would agree with you about smith but not bellew.bripez wrote: Being in the "limelight" is a double edged sword - however those who promote themselves on social media must be prepared for the other side of the coin when things don't go to plan.

Re: paul smith
Smigga needs to remember that for every tw@t that gives him stick theres another 10 who respect him for the way he goes about his business.
He got outclassed by degale pure and simple, but plenty more will too. And probably plenty more who have better records than smigga will not last as long. Nothing to be ashamed of, he is a class act.
I hope he keeps going and gets in the mix at middleweight, he's hardly weight drained at SMW so he should give it a crack.
Chin up smigga, and chin up to every boxer who loses a big fight, it must be devestating!

Bring it on! I'm fat, I'm over forty, I've not been in a boxing ring for fifteen years, and I'd smash that enemy of the proletariat's head in! Even if it was still wearing it's riot helmet!simon fox wrote:You're up past your bedtime Teddy; demolition dan will kick your ass
