Gutsy comeback from Lee, but he had loads of problems tonight with a sub world class opponent. Can't see him beating any top ten names at 160.
In case you didnt pick up on it, there was a heavy hint of irony about my original post.

Lee looked awful in there and was lucky to pull the iron out of the fire in the end.

Thoughts of Martinez should be banished along with the clowns he had in his corner.
Who are those corner guys? There were terrible.

"Remember your breathing." Eff that, tell him what he needs to do to avoid getting clobbered.

Good win, tremendous fight but I'm with Slap on this one, keep him clear of the main man and see if he's learned anything from this one.
Something strange was going on in the corner.

They had Sugar Hill (Mannys nephew working his corner) and Joey Gamache holding the spit bucket. Should really be the other way around.

Fair enough in Hill wants him to breath to compose himself and refocus but the second half of the break should have been tactical advice. i.e. stop trying to knock him out with every shot and jab and move until you find a fúckin rythem.

For all those that doubt Lee's power and question his stamina, I present to you and man that had been through a war and in the last round of a very tough fight.

Thought it was a cracking card of boxing from premier sports/hbo.
The two prospects that were on before lee vs mcewan were really entertaining, the puerto rican guy looks like he has serious power and is deffo one to watch.
Martinez just keeps getting better with age and can do it all.
Great jab, incredibly accurate and has a hell of a lot of power in the left.
An absolute joy to watch for any true boxing fan and on top of that seems like a genuinely nice guy.
Great to see him getting his time in the spot light and hope he's raking in some big pay days :TU:

Hill (Mannys nephew) is now Lees trainer. Manny is his manager. Joey is his assistant trainer/coach or whatever. Looked to me like Joey had no input in the corner at all last night, other than holding the spit bucket. Sugar Hill was in command. Bad move IMO. I respect Sugar Hill, he's done good things. He's had success training K9. He's working with alot of young Kronk fighters, and taking over the reigns from Manny in training these guys nowadays. He's worked with Andy from Day 1 of his pro career. But it seems to me that these days The Kronk is a business first, and boxers second. I imagine they've (Hill/Steward/Kronk) tried to brush Joey aside. Andy lives and trains in New York with Joey when he's not in camp with Cotto or Wlad. I think the Kronk are using bully boy tactics with Joey. I could be wrong.

I have a few sources close to Joey. I'll try and find out more in the coming days. Things haven't always been smooth between Andy and The Kronk, and Joey was always there to pick up the pieces when Andy needed him.

Manny wants a return on his investment he's put into Andy. Whereas Team Kronk are Wlad and Cotto's bitches, it's the other way around for Andy. What Manny Steward says, it's in Andys best interest to do.

Probably because he hasn't made the middleweight limit since 2008.

Pretty stupid reasoning to be honest.

Maybe its because he hasnt had a title fight in that period. The fight on the weekend was made at middleweight with a 3lb allowance. He generally comes in at 162. Move him back.

It's nothing to do with me. I don't edit anything on the site. And if Lee wants to be classed as a middleweight he should prove he can make the limit. The last time he got down that far he was knocked out.

I never said it was, I just said it was stupid reasoning - which it is.

Most fighters dont make the exact title weight in their division when there is no title on the line. They generally hover within a couple of pounds of it, which Lee does. In fact he walks around about the SMW limit.

Look at Barkers non-title weigh in the past few years, all over 160, same with Macklin and Martin Murray who has been 169!

You said "move him back", which implied you were ordering me to do so.

Darren Barker - Made the limit in his last fight.
Matthew Macklin - Made the limit in his last fight.
Martin Murray - Made the limit in his last fight.

Andy Lee - Hasn't made the limit since 2008.

I'm failing to see the similarity.

If you are failing to see the point then you are either niave or a kidding on.

Did those three make the limit in their last non title fights?

Who cares whether it was for a title or not? It's irrelevant. The fact is that they've all made the limit in their last fights, and Lee hasn't since 2008.

Its "irrelevent"??

I suppose it was just a coincidence that they were over the 160 limit in there non title fights and below it for the title fights!

I think I will stop this discussion there, you are making yourself sound a little silly!

Martinez looked a million dollars - I actually thought the WBO champ would give him big problems, but he just blew him away - amazing late career surge by the Argie - a serious puncher these days. Hope they dont make a fight against lee for him - he'd absolutely pulverize the Irishman.
Manny Steward once sad that about Jimm Nail on the evidence of two Auf Weiderhsen videos and a Walmart voucher for $8

Craig McEwan's courage and toughness are hard to match, if only he had real power. I could be wrong but it looked like McEwans nose was broken early by Andy Lees jab and he had to breathe through his mouth. Well done to Andy Lee he is stiff but a very powerful guy.

That fight at times was painful to watch as both absorbed a beating.

I echo the comments above about the poor corner work, at one point Mcewans cut man dried his face, applied Vaseline only to have the trainer soak him midway. These bums should get real jobs. I felt for both fighters in that respect. I know where Manny was but where was coach Roach?
