Hes definitly not doing himself any favours by putting on shit cards, like u say hopefully other promoters will be giving a fair crack of the whip... Im not getting the Khan bill either!!simon fox wrote:If that's his game then I hope that other promoters get a proper crack next season. There are some class British level boxers about who would box till they dropped and do not get a look in.
The Khan v McCloskey PPV can stick it up their bollocks.
I'll have to watch DeGale v Groves though.

Re: Why Sky Why?
I cant recall what the odds were but im sure Murray wasnt anymore than 1/2 which if im correct is shocking..there was only going to be one winner at that stage of Thaxtons career
Re: Why Sky Why?
If Muzza was anywhere near 1/2 then I'd put my misses on that. No joke.

Re: Why Sky Why?
Well the bookies might have took into consideration Thaxtons KO punch&the loss before was at welterweight?? the odds i mentioned might be well out,but i didnt think there was great deal of diff between them in betting...Dioufy wrote:If Muzza was anywhere near 1/2 then I'd put my misses on that. Re: Why Sky Why?
It feels like being taken for a ride with that PPV. McCloskey is a very good boxer and seems a good kid; his purse isn't massive though in PPV terms. Khan must be getting the lions share; this is not a massive risk for Amir and it is really a routine title defence; (though I do hope that McCloskey can pull it off). I'm not putting into the pot this time.

A main event shown on Sky should never really be worse than 4/1 (and that would be bad). This fight wouldn't even be a very interesting undercard fight. Absolute trash.now doesn't have a Sky Sports subscription.
Re: Why Sky Why?
This type of card should not be entertained, IMO.whicker wrote:How can they justify a show like tonights?
Murray is a 33/1 on (betfair) favourite against a nobody opponent (look at his record, what a joke) as the Main Event, and little notable support, which might not even be live anyway.
This is beyond poor.
Re: Why Sky Why?
Mate you have only yourself to blame I am afraid. Why continue to subscribe to SKY. I packed it in months ago and have never looked back. So I didnt see the Murray show, so what? I will get round to it on YOUTUBE if I can be bothered.whicker wrote:How can they justify a show like tonights?

Sky or allegedly, feel free to reply.
I see all I need to see via YOUTUBE and the net. My mate lives in the states and sends me dvds of all the fuights there, most of em a telefutura shows, great competetive fights.
If you want to see competetive 50/50 fights you are wasting your money. Go to New York or South America and watch some small Hall shows, or for World Class Competetive fights watch a TopRank show.
The only top class British fighter regularly involved in tough competetive fights is Carl Froch and guess what? He aint on SKY.
You have to start asking yourself why?
If he goes on SKY will he start fighting hand picked opponents?
Carl should go and sign for Top Rank, after he wins the Super Six.

It wasn't quite the cake-walk expected for Murray..
Re: Why Sky Why?
Im not criticising the Murray Match in particular for SKYS standards it look a reasonable show and undercard, but SKY are no yardstick.Final round wrote:It wasn't quite the cake-walk expected for Murray..
Warrens shows were miles better on ITV even going back to the 80's at the Bloomsbury crest you always had good shows.. Im not going to critiscise the fighters as they can only beat who is in front of them and its a hard enough way to make a living anyway. I wouldnt criticise Warren either as he has to make a living out of it too and get a win for his fighter to keep him going for the next payday. I think the TV execs, people like Gary Newbon knew more about Boxing in the days when Warren was on ITV.
The main problem is the TV companies and publics obsession with unbeaten fighters. Until the stigma from a loss is removed and fighters and the public realise that they can lose against a good fighter but come out of it better, you will have to put up with uncompetetive matches most of the time.
I mean for Christ sake, SKY put on Haye v harrison and made it PPV. That speaks volumes about their standards.
Personally, I think Warren is too good a promoter for SKy. He should try to get his own TV station.
The other problem is SKy dont seem to know what they want. Who is repsonsible for choosing what they put on and pay for? . Who is SKYS Boxing Buyer?
Perhaps he could join the debate?
Re: Why Sky Why?
Barney something or other, is the head of Sky Sports. He calls the shots and decides what to buy.
He is a boxing fan, too, apparently. However he is an exec/suit man aswell and has to answer to others, so despite being a fan, he obviously has to curb his (probable) inclination, as a fan, in matching the best vs the best in order to please the big paymasters.
I gave up on Sky awhile ago, when Fw@nk joined their ranks. I never pay for any of that crap, he usually dishes up. I'll watch in Youtube a day or two later or some stream or something.

As it happens, it was a decent enough fight, although Murray never really looked like losing. Would have been a decent support bout.Final round wrote:It wasn't quite the cake-walk expected for Murray..

Yeah Murray looked like he'd been in a scrap tbh I was quite impressed with the Spaniard a fair performance as a complete underdog on away territorywhicker wrote:As it happens, it was a decent enough fight, although Murray never really looked like losing. Thankfully the Spaniard was game, otherwise it could have fell flat on it's arse.

I would rather Murray had destroyed him. Murray looked really bad last night.G0mez wrote:Thankfully the Spaniard was game, otherwise it could have fell flat on it's arse.

Yep and it was pure luck, because most everyone behind the fight was thinking it'd be a minimum look good fight for Johhny boy - though god knows what the gullible mugs at Sky were thinking when they bought it - and looks like they've accepted another lemon for their next "main event".G0mez wrote:Thankfully the Spaniard was game, otherwise it could have fell flat on it's arse.
I mean, why not show a few meaningful fights instead ? Like the world title flyweight matchup last night from Panama, fight of the year both hit the canvas in the first round etc etc
Nope.....we get the 40/1 record padding warm ups instead.

I couldn't see the average joe bloggs Sky sports surfer tuning into the Panama bout. A British fighter is a must for Saturday fight nights I suppose, they're not so concerned what's in the opposite corner.
Re: Why Sky Why?
Davis V Donnelly - to be fair, it looks OK, but nothing amazing- but a fair fight none the less. But yeah, on it's own it's not a good on to carry a whole Saturday night live boxing show- would be a good support.MightyWarrior wrote: and looks like they've accepted another lemon for their next "main event".
.
There doesn't appear to be anything of note on the undercard.

I think i remember Murray being around the 4/6 mark when he fought Thaxton. I'm sure i stuck £60 on to get a ton back

The boxing on sky has gotten worse since Adam smith took over, what happened to him shaking things up and letting the promoters know who's really in charge? It's so simple for him to demand an evenly matched headliner and 2 decent undercard scraps. Also slightly disappointed in the lack of criticism coming from the boxing news
