Maloney Invitation to debate
Apologies if this topic has been covered, I have looked for it but cannot find it.
However, Frank Maloney has invited a four man team from here and Doghouse to discuss boxing at his Fight Factory, along with Kev from BBN and Steve Lillis.
Not sure how keenly he wants to build up the boxrec versus dogh angle but obviously its a marvellous opp for people.
Few people of merit have stepped forward at DHB, and as far as I can see few have bitten here either.
I'm sure MW, J, James and others would be valid participants.....
He wants to film it and put it on the web.....

Ah right, well, I'll pop on and have a look.
I'm not really interested in getting involved in 'who's better, doghouse or boxrec' which I fear it could be. If it's an opportunity for some of the people involved to air their views and get into some interesting debate, great, if it's a sponsored slagging match which ends up making everyone look like proper charlies, I don't want any part of that.

I've had a look and its seems to be that, its not a chance to air some views as boxing fans to Maloney et al (journo's) on boxing, it sounds like as you suggested James just some "whose better Boxrec and Doghouse". Just like the things Carlos was suggesting.
If it does go ahead, I hope it will be a good day out for the lads - I hope though no snide remarks (from either forum) are made if a decision is made on "who is the better".
I got offered the chance to enter an inter forum prediction league a while back and turned it down. While it was jesture to fix bridges between the rival forums, I don't think competition is the way forward.
As you said James, the chance for forum members to air their views via a web cast to Maloney - even through the title of British Boxing fans, as opposed to "Boxrec posters" "Doghouse Posters" etc would be worthwhile.

I share your reservations James. And I'm sure Frank will want to get a bit of sparkle into proceedings - he is a promoter after all. But I think he's genuinely embracing the web as a productive medium for promoting and communicating with his target audience so hopefully, his motives are honourable.
Ithink Steve Lillis, Kev Taylor are definite invites and I think he hopes to ask some of his fighters to attend too.

yip agreed.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, who is up for this then. I've posted over at doghouse, I'm up for going so long as it doesn't conflict with work, If it turns into some sort of fiasco, I'll just do one, I think we're all capable of being reasonable adults.
i have never poste don doghouse so dont even know how good or bad it is, so wouldnt be able to comment in honesty.
wld be more interested in pushing the fight factory fighters angle more and chatitng bout that.
i dont think you get the same bollocks face to face you get through the internet for starters so dont see it turning into a shambles.
I've been filming for the Maloneys over the last few months and will film the debate for the net. I don't think the idea of starting any forum wars has crossed anyones mind at the Fight Factory. I suggested on DHB that everyone who turns up is there to make a clear point, not insist the panel agree with them. My task will be to accurately edit the film to reflect the nature of the debate.
The gym has a good atmosphere when welcoming guests, weigh-in's and pressers, and there is a friendly bar downstairs so it should be a good night.

Whay should allegedly get a slating.nickd wrote:Whats the debate about exactly?
Boxing in general?
Allegedly will get an absolute slating surely.![]()
He's just put on one of the biggest fights in this country for 20 years.
And the biggest fight 20 years ago, Curry v Jones, he put that on as well.
Allegedly should be praised not slated.

This could be interesting but I have a feeling it is going to just turn into a war of words between the forums there will be some attending who just won't be able to help themselves. Maybe I should put together a BBN dream team to bring along, don't want you lot ganging up on me!!..
It would be good discuss how boxing can be improved in terms of entertainment for the general boxing fan and maybe look at some of rules and what we think of them, ie. the Cuts rule, the addition of three judges for British title fights etc.
It shouldn't just turn into a general slagging off of the promoters out there.
Each site has it's own merit and there will always be the occasional idiot who just goes onto the forum to cause trouble that's one of the main reasons I have never opened a forum at BBN because of the time spent to police it etc
