Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
Larry always wanted that fight and it would have made a lot of money. Why did Foreman duck him?
Re: Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
For fear of being outboxed I suppose
Re: Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
Did Larry want Foreman before Foreman retired the first time? The geezer fight he wanted and I'm sure it would have netted both guys a fortune. Wouldn't have exited me much to see a pair of grandfathers go at it 20 years past their primes.

Someone has eaten up Holmes' bullshit.
The fight wouldve likely happened if Holmes wasnt still fvcking around in the Ams at the ridiculous age of 24 while Foreman was moving through the pro ranks at the same age, as 95% of all noteworthy Heavies were. Christ alive, Foreman had won the title before Holmes had even debuted.

I also agree that Foreman did not duck Holmes. But Holmes loves to chant that.

Holmes went public wanting the fight. Foreman never entered into negotiations. Holmes called him out. Is that not ducking?BoxBuzz wrote:I also agree that Foreman did not duck Holmes. But Holmes loves to chant that.

Re: Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
I think it had a lot more to do with money than with any fear on the part of either man. They are both pretty good businessmen, and probably both wanted more than 50%.....and if I have my math right....that can't happen.

Re: Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
Their first career trajectories never crossed paths so that's really a mute point.
In their 40s, around 1997 or so they actually were serious talks between Holmes-Foreman for a fight for some 'golden oldies' HW belt or some crap, and I think the fight was even announced, but it broke down over money I believe, but I do think Foreman didn't want to risk his image by losing to another 40+ year old fighter.

So from laughing yourself stupid (as though that ship hasnt sailed), youre down to asking for what happened? Guess whos laughing now? A word of advice? Never believe one word from Larry Holmes' mouth.keithmoonhangover wrote:OK, Mr Smarty Pants. What's your take on it? I believe it was 1999 (post-retirement for Foreman) and it was to coincide with their 50th. Foreman had little to maintain in the way of an image by then.dempseyfire wrote:Their first career trajectories never crossed paths so that's really a mute point.

I think it was announced but it probably broke down over money. Foreman always the more marketable and Holmes the more greedy.Goodnight, Irene wrote:I believe it was 1999 (post-retirement for Foreman) and it was to coincide with their 50th. Holmes or Foreman are certainly not remembered as 'duckers'

Holmes wanted that fight from the minute that Foreman came back. Foreman wanted nothing to do with him. Larry wanted to fight Bowe. Foreman would go no where near Bowe.funso banjo baby wrote:Holmes or Foreman are certainly not remembered as 'duckers'

Yet more completely baseless lies. Unreal. You might as well assert the sky aint blue at this stage.keithmoonhangover wrote:Holmes wanted that fight from the minute that Foreman came back. Because he is literally encased in his own bitterness, that is why. He lies, half-truths, & bullsh!ts his way through story after story. He's a liar. Hell, the man made his empire in Real Estate...how much stock are you gonna put in his word?keithmoonhangover wrote:Why?Goodnight, Irene wrote:So from laughing yourself stupid (as though that ship hasnt sailed), youre down to asking for what happened? Holmes is an overrated douchebag. He makes Floyd Mayweather look like fuckin Ghandi and Foreman would've fucked him up badly. Tyson gave that bitch the KO that he always deserved.
Re: Why Did Foreman Duck Holmes?
Nah... Holmes came from real poverty. He wasn't a middle class kid born into the sport. If he was mean and nasty that's because he was from that side of the tracks.
He also had the ba11s to back it up when he needed to.
