Should the Cleverly / Bellew fight have gone ahead at CW?

Post by apophenic »

i personally think both fighters would have been equally disadvantaged and so it was in neithers favour if this had gone ahead at catchweight....

bellew hadn't been training and had drained to try to get to the LHW limit...

cleverly would be giving away a bit of weight.

as Clev was awarded the title anyway, I think a catch weight of no more than 12 stone 11 pounds would have been a better event that the one that's going ahead -if Bellew could have made that.

No, it wouldn't have been fair on Clev who had been preparing for it for months. Bomber was involved for less than 24 hours, it wouldn't have been right to change the goalposts for him.

No way, safety first - this fight can be made down the line and will be much better for it
