Going backwards
MW Season
#1 pick - Greb (managed by Hitman) won the WBA title in week 9
#2 pick - Hagler (managed by F.O.L.) won the IBF title in week 6
WW Season
#1 pick - Ray Robinson (managed by 'geto) - won the WBC title in week 7. Also unifed all 5 belts in week 10 (IBO was still around then)
#2 pick - Ray Leonard (managed by Kevo) - Leonard's first title shot didn't come until week 24
where he lost a decision to Napoles. His next shot came in week 30, and again lost a decision to Napoles. He finally got the job done in week 32, when he lifted all 5 belts from Robinson (26-4-1 at the time) with a stunning first round TKO.

Can't be arsed to check, but I remember Pep having a struggle at the start of the season. Can't remember if Saddler too time to settle too.
What I do know is that Sanchez beat them both in the elims. Hardest path to a title ever.

Yes now I remember leonards slow start well maybe there is hope for crease yet

Goddamnit GM! You have exposed me. Pep was a slow starter to the Featherweight season, it took the Million Dollar Tourny to kickstart his career:glittermonkey wrote:Can't be arsed to check, but I remember Pep having a struggle at the start of the season. Re: has anyone else
Yes but by the looks of it he had some very tough fights that there is no shame in losing and losing to RAF Marquez in that season is not embarressing he was on his way to a HOF career
Re: has anyone else
P4P, check the matchup thread for potential developments.

People fear Joe. It's really that simple.p4p1 wrote:ever had a top 2 draft pick and 12 weeks in not won a version of a title with him other than crease?

Re: has anyone else
Two Words on the OTHER SIDE of this coin......... Maxie Rosenbloom........
one of the DEAD LAST pics.....and he trampled over the top draft choices like they were so much old confetti from last years ticker tape parade.
I'ts all about the art of judgment, matchmaking, decision making and properly nuanced premium management.
When you are dealt cards like Duran and Louis and you still find a way to flounder......well the results tell the whole sordid story.

All those fighters have the excuse of having taken tough fights, though.

Shame that season ended so abruptly. Sanchez was Pep's mando, Marquez was still kicking arse, Arguello had risen to the top, I'm sure that Saldivar had come good, and there were still guys like Saddler and Armstrong at the top of the rankings. Feather needs to be done again at some point.
Re: has anyone else
I'd like Bantam next. Or Lightweight.
