Remy (Panzerfaust), on a recent visit here from Holland for the CBHOF event & some training at Freddie roach's gym, decided to take on the world's toughest burrito. Our Randy is the only one to whip A Manuel's Special, and actually ate 1 1/2. Remy boasted that he could finish one off. We posted pictures of Remy trying. He'd have had an easier time trying to out-box a prime Willie Pep. Maybe somebody will dig up a picture of Manuel for you?

I was never treated with more courtesy and respect. i remember he had a ring in his back yard and he would turn on the lights and all the kids from neighborhood would come and box. god we had fun and had tons of boxing memorablia. drink talk fights eat the best food...great days in the early 80s

you are getting old my friend
Some history youngster . . .

Yeah, I'm starting to lose it, too many film locations are kinda like too many fights.
Sorry Ram, I meant to say, Finland, or was it Iceland?
Wherever, it's too cold for me and they don't allow professional boxing, right?
Remy, we should consider some ring names for the day you make your pro debut in Southern California.
And next time you should bring a NORWEGIAN flag for Wild Card. Why not?
Maybe you should have some fun with this. When you fight for fun, like Ray White did, you always come out on top.
There was a heavyweight a hundred years ago named Tom Kennedy fought some greats of the era, but he didn't do it for money.
Tom Kennedy fought for the sport, and he was a helluva fighter. His family was wealthy, he didn't need boxing for his future.
When Kennedy retired, he was sharp and popular, opened a busy bar in NYC.
In 1913 (or 1915) there was a mob murder in his bar. Rather than testify, Kennedy left for Hollywood.
Kennedy would use his family contacts and become an actor, and became famous as one of the Keystone Kops, and a long career as a familiar charactor actor right until his death. He was seen in the "Little Rascals" as a cop. He had a look, known as "the slow burn" where you could see the anger rising to a boil on his face. He was also the first man to promote boxing for the Hollywood Legion. That in itself is an honor, as the Legionaires were a class outfit, and wanted nothing less with their boxing club. Kennedy was always active in the boxing world, and I have this great photo that Hap Navarro sent me years ago. It's a group photo, taken at a boxing function around 1950. In the photo is Hap Navarro, sitting along with Tom Kennedy, Fidel LaBarba, Mickey Walker, a youthful Don Chargin and other legends. Those involved with the evolution of the Hollywood Legion Stadium and the Olympic Auditorium are the foundation of the Golden Age of boxing on the West Coast.
By the way, Tom Kennedy's family fortune was lost when Wall Street crashed, leading into the depression.

If Floyd & Pac came up in L.A. when Aileen Eaton & George Parnassus controlled our big time boxing, they'd have fought long ago.
You cash in on the event while it is hot, when it's wanted. A simple injury to either boxer eliminates a nine figure revenue today.
Back in the day in L.A. there was no waiting to settle a grudge match, cross town rivalry, or whatever the interest in a competitive match.
No boys "protected" in L.A. rings back then, not like what you see today. We had guys that got better breaks, but they fought competitive opponents.
When Keeny Teran and Gil Cadilli were the hottest homegrown talents, the two ELA hot shots were matched.
When Mando Ramos and Frankie Crawford needed to fight, they did. Twice.
When Quarry and Orbillo was a hot ticket, they got it on. Winning records were put in jeopardy, not like today.
And what about Kelly Pavlik? It's time to punch his time card and dismiss him. Disgrassa!

One possible answer to your question is : Probably not. Back during the 1950's when boxing was on TV it was franchised out by the TV stations owners and was permitted to be kept in film form licensee rights by Big Fights Inc. I dont know the original owners of Big Fights Inc or its beginnings, nor its agreement, but nonetheless Big Fights Inc eventually ended up in the hands of Jim Jacobs. Jim was an avid Handball Amateur Champion and well known for that activity. Jim was the sole owner of Big Fights Inc at least by 1970.
(My father had some business with him in getting copies of some of his fight films).

Everytime a former fight film was shown on TV,in a movie or movie playhouse, Big Fights got a pct. Along came Bill Cayton in the late 1970's or 1980's and Jim & Bill merged as partners. They still owned the rights up through that point. When Cus D'Amato passed on ,Jim & Bill became mgrs of Mike Tyson, with Kevin Rooney the trainer.
You might have read that Mike enjoyed watching films of the past greats so he tried to pick up on some stances or training methods of those in the past.
Mike actually became very astute at boxing history because of Jim's and Bill's collection.

Jim Jacobs passed on and Bill took control of the business. With Tyson fleeing to King, and then Bill passing away-the business and its rights ended up with Bill Cayton Jr.
I had some business with Bill Jr trying to buy my fathers films and its rights but he already sold them to ESPN/Disney. Hence you see these classics on ESPN Classic Channel. (AND I ADD- RARELY ANYWHERE ELSE !)
Though I do not know exactly if they own the Olympic TV fights from back then, my gut feeling is that do, however-thankfully many of these fights emerged on the underground film collectors market years ago (copies) and technology today has brought them to life via Youtube and other sites.

Many private collectors exist out there somewhere who just might have copies of great fights yet seen. Archie Moore owned a copy of my dads fight with him,but never brought another copy to New York for my dad to have.
Archie had 100's of his fights in his personal collection at the time of his death.
I read somewhere they were auctioned off to another private collector somewhere for $300,000. Collector unknown.
Though not positive where those Olympic fight films are-maybe they were not recorded on celluloid or taped at all.My guess is they are in someones attic somewhere. Or Disney. Good luck trying to find out from them.

If they were stolen, they probably sit in a private collection. Hopefully they still exist as a set. Maybe they were sold and ended up in Bill Cayton Jr's hands and eventually went to Disney. If thats the case-then kiss them goodbye as they sit in a huge vault here in New York-climate controlled. What a waste-hopefully they will show themselves some day on Youtube.

I don't each much, Monica says I eat like a bird. I could top off a Hollenbeck, if I was hungry.
So don't expect to draw much attention sitting down with a Hollenbeck.
