I had a narrow win for Hopkins, can't remember the exact score, a point or two probably. Hopkins landed harder and cleaner punches through most of the fight. I'm not from the Lederman school of scoring where whoever is busier wins a round whether they're landing or not.

I don't recall Hopkins landing hard, clean punches after the first couple rounds. I do remember Calzaghe bending him over and hammering him doggy style while Bernard begged the ref for help.

Hopkins barely did anything after the first few rounds and the notion that he was landing harder, cleanier punches throughout the fight is incorrect. I think a lot of people fallaciously assume that if a boxing master like BHop is being miserly with his punch output, he is at least being effective when he does throw.

Fair comment.

I had the same score, but the other way. I could have easily been ok with Hopkins getting the verdict and I thought he might.

Calzaghe, best in his division, in his day, which isn't really saying a lot, in my opinion.

But prime for prime what do you think would have been different. Joe still would have thrown more punches and I could never see Hopkins knocking him out. I feel Joe is and always would have been a wrong match up for b hop. Although if RJJ fought Joe in his prime its a different story

Dont get too carried away. I dont recall him being in there with a 168lb Mike Tyson at any stage of his career. Great cardio helped his cause too, but he never had the competition on his CV to impress me that much.Thats not what he WAS though, was it? I dont see why Kessler is relevant. Hes one of Calzaghes best wins, but he never tested Calzaghes ability to recover from either a 1st-class puncher or finisher.
Your idiotic posts here are the reason why most of the board dont bother with BOTP....lol maybe there wasnt a 168lb Tyson for him to fight.....your moronic statement is like saying I dont rate muhammed Ali he never beat a 220lb version of SRL........ the fact you have trouble understanding is Jeff lacey was billled as the 168lb Tyson and in his short frightning peak at 168 he was exactly that.....its just Calzaghe ruined him....being wise after the fact is typical of you......anyway good day and lets see how long it takes for your dunnie cleaning sheila mate runs here defending you! gday mate!

Mugabi is a Brit (surprise, surprise, right? LOL) but since he just called Lacy the SMW equivalent of Tyson, couldnt he be stupid as well?

Its a shame my idiotic posts are driving people away from BOTP. However, Im sure the entertainment value of Mugabis idiotic posts, demonstrated above, will bring them back in droves.

Mugabi is my hero, carrying internet grudges for years while studying at Oxford. As his maniacal rage takes to the keyboard, lets not forget he is also quite often driving while he posts. Talk about road rage.

You are a mental train wreck. Go do brain surgery on your sodomy-gimp or something and let the people who don't suffer from schizophrenia make the arguments.

I tend to give Calzaghe a lot more credit than my American peers, but the Lacy-Tyson stuff is one of the longest running dumb cliches to come about in these forums simply so mental midget Britons like yourself can feel good about one of your heroes in unnecessary fashion.

Had it for Hopkins, but could have gone either way.

Effectively a draw, no real clear winner

The wit of a classically-trained Oxford gent (posted whilst kite-surfing I am reliably-informed, no less). Harvard & Princeton are struggling to keep pace with OU's graduates.

Had no complaints about the decision. Hopkins fought like an old man...which is quite hard to believe bearing in mind what he's achieved since then.

Hopkins by at least 3 points the last time I scored it. Terrible fight, and terrible performance from both men, but regardless of the nature the fight took on during the latter parts, Hopkins was consistently landing the harder, cleaner blows while Joe slapped at arms, shoulders, and air for the most part. Not effective, scoring aggression in my book. Not to mention Hopkins had him hurt on no less than 3 occasions.
