Welliver VS De Mori
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
IMO Mark on points.
Don't think Chauncy is quick enough to catch deMori consistenly enough to be a worry and although Mark obviously hasn't been in the ring for a long time I think the new version of Mark will stay fast and quick for the whole distance.
I agree Chauncy's strengths are his durability and cardio for a big guy, just think Mark can out cardio him whilst staying quicker.
Maybe after November 12? I know Mark is keen to get another in before the year ends.

I'll go with Welliver. De Mori has been nothing but hype and let downs.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Looking at the quality of opponents. Chauncy has just racked up win #50 against Rob Calloway while Mark racked up 7 of 16wins against guys either on their debut or had never won a fight.
Come to think of it the way Chauncy has improved I wouldnt be surprised if he stopped Mark Demori. He has kept very active in the last year against expereinced opponents with winning records and stopped 5/6. I have no doubt would be a great fight to watch.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
I doubt they will fight anyway. Welliver has been fighting mostly in the USA lately with two fights in China. I doubt the money on offer in New Zealand would encourage him to fight there considering the purses he would have earned in the last couple of years.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
It appears De Mori is fighting Matt Hicks on November 20. Hick's record is not flash but he has lost to a couple of decent fighters. I'm just hoping this fight comes off because it would be great to see De Mori in the ring again after so long

Its great to see Mark getting a fight that If i am not wrong is now promoting himself.
I still believe De Mori beats Welliver, But with Welliver's current run why would you want to ask De Mori for a fight? Shouldn't you be calling out bums with a name like Oliver McCall, Francois Botha or Michael Grant for fights, Would help with your WBO rating to beat oldies like them.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
The current versions of McCall, Botha, and Grant are all better than De Mori, who has done nothing worth mentioning and lost to or drawn with very poor opponents.
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
He only lost one fight and that was early in his career.
No Kiwi or Yank ever beat him.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
De Mori hasn't fought any decent Kiwis or Yanks, and I'd be quite surprised if he beat more than one of the fighters to whom convict ascribed the status of 'bum.'

Still will be great to see Mark back in the ring and hopefully promoting himself.

With Tua retired and Cameron dropped to cruiserweight, what decent Kiwi heavyweights are there?crusader wrote:De Mori hasn't fought any decent Kiwis or Yanks, and I'd be quite surprised if he beat more than one of the fighters to whom convict ascribed the status of 'bum.'

Are you sure? I think you'll find he was born in the same country as former Australian Heavyweight champion Colin Wilson.Brute wrote:Kali is a Fijian by birth.yid14 wrote:Kali MeehanBrute wrote: With Tua retired and Cameron dropped to cruiserweight, what decent Kiwi heavyweights are there?

I never said anything about lately but IMO BJ Flores is a decent fighter, and not that I know anything about him but David Rodriguez has a nice record and has won a couple of North American regional titles plus has a win over Owen "what the heck" Beck.colin russell wrote:Great if we get to see Mark fight again but franko1990who are the decent fighters that Hicks has fought latey.?Still will be great to see Mark back in the ring and hopefully promoting himself.

Don't be silly he's lemon, by the sounds of things a tubby one at that. He's been knocked out by anybody he's faced with abit of a name and hasn't beaten anybody with a winning record. Surely they could of found somebody who would have been equally competative down on the nearest building site.franko1990 wrote:I never said anything about lately but IMO BJ Flores is a decent fighter, and not that I know anything about him but David Rodriguez has a nice record and has won a couple of North American regional titles plus has a win over Owen "what the heck" Beck.colin russell wrote:Great if we get to see Mark fight again but franko1990who are the decent fighters that Hicks has fought latey.?Still will be great to see Mark back in the ring and hopefully promoting himself.

I'm not saying he is great I agree he's not the best but he is a good fight for a guy coming back after such along layoff.yid14 wrote:Don't be silly he's lemon, by the sounds of things a tubby one at that. Re: Welliver VS De Mori
I think we would all like to see this fight for one reason or another, But lets face it Welliver should be fighting either have beens like Botha and co to increase his WBO rating or putting his hand up for a fight with Robert Helenius.
Welliver Vs Helenius for the WBO inter-cont belt makes more sense at this point of time (03-12-2011 ???). With Helenius bad habit of dropping that hand of his when someone gets in close, Im sure Welliver could do well there and punish him for it.
Anyway that's my 5c worth.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
His parents were Fijian. If he was born in New Zealand they did not stay there long. Some of the birth claims on Boxrec are a bit dodgy. Solomon Haumona was supposed to have been born in New Zealand but his father fought in Australia within a few days of his birth.yid14 wrote:Are you sure? Re: Welliver VS De Mori
When it comes to Soloman Haumonas dad I don't think it would matter that he fought in Aussie a few days later because I reckon it was probably his mum that gave birth to him. But Yeah since I wrote about Meehans birthplace I've been trying to find out aswell, Boxrec and wikipedia both have him down as being born in N.Z, but when I've typed in his name on google it comes up saying he was born in Fiji and I've never really been sure.Brute wrote:His parents were Fijian. Re: Welliver VS De Mori
Maile Haumona had a fight with Young Sekona in May 1975 in New Zealand. He was back in Australia before the end of the year. I doubt he would have taken his wife to new Zealand to have a child in October 1975.yid14 wrote:When it comes to Soloman Haumonas dad I don't think it would matter that he fought in Aussie a few days later because I reckon it was probably his mum that gave birth to him. Meehan fought amateurs and a few prelims in New Zealand before settling here in 1998 but Islanders do get around a lot.
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
If Kali is not included then I'm not sure, but if there are some decent Kiwi's De Mori hasn't beaten them. In fact, De Mori hasn't beaten any decent fighter, regardless of where they are from. I have nothing against him, but I think he is overrated.Brute wrote:With Tua retired and Cameron dropped to cruiserweight, what decent Kiwi heavyweights are there?crusader wrote:De Mori hasn't fought any decent Kiwis or Yanks, and I'd be quite surprised if he beat more than one of the fighters to whom convict ascribed the status of 'bum.'
Re: Welliver VS De Mori
He has beaten three Americans, two of them over there.
The other was Ed Mahone, who some people on this board had a wrap on.

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
The beauty to this topic is he can fight both... I'm an American by birth, and New Zealander legally.
I really do think me and Mark would make a great fight. Mark is good but I feel 100% at the top of my game and think I could beat him. I see many people differ, but thats the beauty to boxing, we will all eventually fin out.
Cheers

Re: Welliver VS De Mori
chauncy,
u may not be the greatest ever, but i still think mark would be better off fighting a few ordinary fighters fairly close together before fighting someone like you, considering he has been inactive for 2 years. he needs to get the ring rust out of his system first imo.
but soon after, yeah, make it happen.
