Re: Greatest news ever
I watched the Jones - Lebedev fight and Jones won the first half of the fight and made Lebedev look amateurish and very basic until he ran out of gas late on. I think Toney has more than enough savvy even now to beat Lebedev handily on points and i think the 6/1 thats available on Toney to win (10/1 on points) is tasty and will be throwing a few quid on it! Great to see its live on tv here as well!
Re: Greatest news ever
Hedging my bets on this one. I've been saying Toney should retire for ages, pretty much thought so after the 2nd Peter fight. Firmly cemented after Rahman 2 (which he wasn't winning even though everybody said he was) and especially the Greer fight where despite the early win, he looked awful. If he can still move his head he'll be in the fight. I guess we'll see when the first bell rings how much the weight was effecting him. He may have a few wins left in him.

10/1 on a Toney points win is excellent value.

Re: Greatest news ever
More than likely, but it's worth a tenner all the same. As Dave pointed out, an extremely shot RJJ made Lebedev look very ordinary before he ran out of steam. Toney is a lot sturdier than RJJ and will give a good account of himself as usual.keithmoonhangover wrote:You'll lose your money.Deno1986 wrote:dve3333 wrote:I watched the Jones - Lebedev fight and Jones won the first half of the fight and made Lebedev look amateurish and very basic until he ran out of gas late on. Re: Greatest news ever
Had to have a couple of quid on Toney Pts at 12/1 @Skybet, ridiculously good odds IMO. Keep thinking of the Jirov fight and I don't think Ledvedev is as good as Jirov, but as always workrate will be Toneys enemy.
COME ON LIGHTSOUT!!!

Re: Greatest news ever
Cheers for the 12/1 lads! He's definitely worth a punt at those odds.
It simply comes down to how much Toney has deteriorated and also by fight night he will have dropped 57 pounds since his last fight in February thats a lot of weight to shift in 7 months. Should be a really good fight to come in from work on a Friday night tho!

An old grey Toney will skool the lantern jawed Ruskie.
IMO Toney has the best classic boxing skills I have ever seen.
Can any of the smart guys on here direct me to an old school figher (obviously Floyd has it down but I can't think of many other 'relaxed' fighters like Toney) with the same defensive shoulder roll style as James Toney? I can't think of any?
anyone know?
Anyone teaching boxing should show their pupils James Toney.

Re: Greatest news ever
My major concern for Toney is that his work rate in fights isn't enough !! He has the skills to avoid trouble and land some decent shots etc, but the work rate has declined from what i have seen in recent years. Also, i'm not sure how this huge weight loss will effect Toney, but what i do know is that the old fox will have Roy Jones and Hopkins in his sights if he wins 8)Jon Saxon wrote:An old grey Toney will skool the lantern jawed Ruskie.

Toney was taught out of the old school, same as Hopkins and as you say Floyd had that same tuition, but not many fighters have that type of education anymore because the old guys aren't about any more and the younger trainers have'nt the knowledge.

Well I for fornicating one don't. I'd rather watch McCartney act and Crowe sing. But you'd have to shoot me afterwards.King Geedorah wrote:He's a genuis.yid14 wrote:I'm not sure why your so excited about it, he's 43 and hasn't been a force for years.
Naw, he’s a double genius. When Paul McCartney sings you listen. When Russell Crowe acts you watch. .
Toney was a good fighter in his prime but his real genius was finding the quickest route to Burger King wherever he happened to be.

My point is that some people idolize James Toney and taking steroids can cause more damage to your opponent.Jon Saxon wrote:I didnt know that steriods taught you how to do shoulder rolls Keithykeithmoonhangover wrote:Teach them to be a drugs cheat?Jon Saxon wrote:An old grey Toney will skool the lantern jawed Ruskie.

As far as I'm aware he wasn't caught taking steroids, it was a stamina-booster or weight loss drug (still not good though)keithmoonhangover wrote:My point is that some people idolize James Toney and taking steroids can cause more damage to your opponent.

It's not the biggest of undercards so I'm guessing around 4pm. Only a guess though.

He took steriods....
He tested positive for stanozolol on one occasion and boldenone and stanozolol on another.
Re: Greatest news ever
I forgot this was on allegedly. Their coverage starts at 3pm and runs until 8pm so scrap my 4pm guess I'd say.
Re: Greatest news ever
Is allegedly still free?
