Promotors, Sky fell out of love with it.
Let's not forget that ITV had built up Benn, Waatson, Hamed and Eubank.

Football clubs have been built up over a century but boxers have a few years in which to get such a fanbase.

no bugger knows about this channel apart from us hardcore boxing fans. its going to fall flat on its face imo. a bit of ingenuity would help, make it a general fightsport channel, add a bit of mma kickboxing, and whammo, you get more subscribers. not enough fights on for me to justify paying..and there is no confirmation whether you are tied into a deal or not..

I find this view (not just your's) strange.

Why would they spend money on a big advertising campaign before they started charging?

Surely better to get the thing running, sort out problems with things like Virgin, and advertise ahead of big fights in the same way they would for a PPV.

i disagree..surely its better to ensure you are going to get the viewers, who after all are will be financing the channel via their subs, before launching? they are gambling on people knowing about the channel. did they do any research beforehand? none that I have seen or heard about. i am surpirsed that allegedly is involved with such a keystone cop arrangement

Good news on Ireland, potentially good news on HD and not so good news on online. With a minimum contract length of 6 months, I wonder if that means an upfront payment of £60 or being able to set up a direct debit for a monthly payment?

6 Months?

Thats me definatly out. You'd be better going on a monthly basis- updating your schedule reguarly and letting people decide if they want to pay or not each month.

I'll catch it by other means

Are they asking for six months up front or to sign on to pay for six months but actually pay for it monthly?
i'd imagine the latter :TU:

Whether you pay 6 months up front or have to pay monthly for a minimum 6 months isn't the issue for me, its the fact that you have no idea about the quality of what you are being asked to commit to.... :(
Yep- I think if they were confident in the quality of their schedule they would take a pay as you go basis.... I can see why they haven't but why not give the subscriber the option to cancel at any time? I know there not going to chase you through the courts for £60 but it reeks of contingency.

It's certainly not going to help that the schedule for the first month looks increasingly bare with the George Groves injury. £20 worth of subs (up to the end of January) currently provides Helenius-Chisora, Cotto-Margarito, Groves-Guerrero, Saunders v TBA and Ormond v Johanneson. Yikes.

I will not be subscribing to a channel for a minimum 6 month contract when I have no idea what I will be paying for or what the quality will be like. When the history of this promoter is littered with mismatched fights, late pull outs and shoddy replacements then there is no way I will be paying. A channel which relegates the fighters on it to a tiny minority audience is bad for the sport and its future. I of course offer my apologies to Steve Bunce, as clearly I am not a "proper fan".

Surely It be paid as part of my virgin deal. Otherwise this could cause allsorts of problems. If I wanted the Adult channel thats done through virgin I dont pay thme direct why is this different? This will really struggle.

Is there a cost implication of paying through your TV provider? If allegedly want to retain the same profit per subscriber then they'd probably have to charge a higher fee to cover the processing cost charged to them by Sky/Virgin.

But your deal is with Virgin who do you ring if channel not working? This makes no sense also asking for people to sign up for 6 months .

@allegedly has just tweeted

Virgin customers: you can sign up in advance for allegedly's new subscription service here http://goo.gl/Yyz8m

Looking at the form, it seems Virgin customers can book through Virgin and the fine print indicates that allegedly upgrades must be kept for at least 30 days. No mention of a 6 month handcuff.

Apart from Cotto night of fight there no other boxing in December worth subcribing too.

Basically, we are being asked to paying £60 for one decent US card on December 3rd and Chisora Vs Helenius all on the same night. Groves being out means we'll get to see DeGale vs a TBA and Saunders fighting a bum on the other half decent card, if you can call it that.

We've no idea what January will bring, so the first £20 is money for a couple of half decent cards and one of the cards won't kick off until the early hours of the morning being from the US. It's money for nothing.

Who in their right mind would tie into a 6 month contract with no knowledge of what they are getting apart from the mentioned above? Either allegedly shows the Jan/Feb Schedules before it kicks off or I won't be subscribing and even then I'm not that keen.

I'm all ready paying for Sky Sports, ESPN has fight nights coming back in January, EuroSport and Channel 5 are also showing the odd night here and there. That's not to mention the fights screened live on the internet that are about and the older fights you can access. There is only so much boxing you can watch 'Live'.

allegedly just hasn't got the depth at the minute, it's making us pay PPV for average cards. It's going to bomb big time.

Big Saureland card in February few Euro titles on it. Also think Degal v Sanavia EBU defence in February after the knock over job he fights on Decemebr 9th.

Some posters have hinted that they will watch illegal streams instead of subscribing.

I think, with the availability of streams and even pay sites that offer good quality streams for a lot less than what warren is charging, this channel will struggle. I would estimate that a lot of posters will be watching streams rather than paying. the problem for BN is that it's pretty impossible to stop illegal streaming.

The likes of iTunes and other MP3 stores have proven that it's possible to charge for a product that can be found illegally and still make money. The public are generally law abiding and will willingly pay over 'stealing'. There is a balance, however, and the comments on this thread alone suggest that the costs of the service are not in line with the service to be provided. Hence people will justify the use of a stream or other means to watch the fights.
