How many times are you going to bring this old chestnut up? You are repeating yourself incessantly here.

If you're going to comment on Joe Louiis chosen title defences, then look at ALL OF THEM or don't look at all...

Regarding The Open Weeks... Louis conformed to the rules of the spirit of Open Weeks exactly... To give guys a title shot - guys who had never been given a title shot before... And Joe did that three weeks in a row. It was in the right spirit of things, and now you complain about it?
If you are saying that The Open Weeks are a bad idea in general, I would tend to agree with you, but don't complain about Joe fighting lower ranked fighters in Open Weeks, it's not Joe Louis fault that the Open weeks were there.

Now, alognside the open weeks, Joe defended his titles against tought opposition:
Joe chose to defend his title against Jack Johnson (I assume that you would agree that this is a hard fight?)
Joe chose to defend his title against Peter Jackson (when he could have easily got away with nopt defending it all - like BoxBuzz and Ben K did)
Joe defended his title against Joe Jeanette
Joe chose to defend his title against Gene Tunney (another good fighter)

3 out of 4 of those challengers made it to the super six shortlist, now can you see that Joe was fighting a good calibre of opponent without the open weeks...
JDC wrote:Many fighters in the IBHOF never fought for a World Titl
But they can't claim to have reached the top of their profession can they? When most young boxers start out, their aim is to become a World Champion...
Max Schmeling never did this and yet you claim his credentials for a top 6 place?
Crease, EVERYONE complained at your choices of opposition in the free for all title weeks

Schmeling has been ranked by organisations since the middle of the season and only got a shot when he became #1 contender (mandatory against Ali). When the titlists are all fighting the easiest possible contenders he had to plug away with the WBU. His only other title fight since week six was to unify all original belt lines against Wills. Before each of these fights he beat Marciano.

That's a 4 week period where he beat the #1 in the sim twice, he lost to the guy who replaced Marciano as his mandatory and was involved in the completion of the Lonsdale unification. All this and he wasn't even ranked in the top 30 by week 12.

He's had a terrific second half of the season as shown by where the sanctioning bodies have him pegged despite recent losses.

It may be tidier, buts its rude to ignore half of what someone says and single out parts of text without having any context.

You always do it to make someone else's point fit your own

Firstly - are you doubting the credibility of the WBO Title? Are you saying that it's not one of the four major titles?

secondly - Joe Louis had no interest in the Lonsdale belt, I just wanted Louis to fight Marciano... I had been trying to arrange the fight with Buzz for 4 weeks before he agreed to fight Louis.

It is as I once said to BoxBuzz via private mail: (when engotiating the Louis/Marciano fight)
Crease wrote:I just think sir, that since we have the opportunity of reading these great fights, we owe it to the BoxRecSim publixc to organise the great fights.

If Managers don't take the hard fights and match the great fighters agaibst each other, then really there's no point playing in the sim.
JDC wrote:Needless to say you got brutally embarrassed in the process.
But there's no disrespect there. I suspected that Rocky would probably beat Joe. But Louis should be commended for taking the fight (and going through a lot of trouble to make it)
rather than condemned for losing it.
WBO or whatever not really the point. Its the fights that matter. All can be major or minor. Louis vs Haye, Loius vs Norton obviously marginalize its significance.

If you had wanted to fight Marciano you could have been his mando if you dropped your belt the week before his was due.

I concede the fact that Joe's chosen title defences were of a poor standard. Moore & Norton are both third raters & Haye is somewhere even below that.
But perhaps this has been a lesson to the Sim about The Open Week, while intially they might seem like a good idea, Managers might think otherwise on second glance.

I can only sympathise with your situation. Actually, I have epxerienced it myself when I was trying to get Joe Louis World Title shots...

Did you know that only received one lone optional title shot all season...
All the rest of his shots, Joe was the mandatory challenger or in a faceoff for a vacant title.

And Louis has maintained a top 10 ranking virtually all-season long and yet received just the one optional title defence...
Joe Louis worked hard for his glory, that much is for sure.

:TU:

Some free title fights worked well. Ali's revenge against Stribling for example. Maybe it should be commish approved weeks?

Not like commish picks, but sanctioned by the commish

Of course the poll was nothing more than a popularity contest... (Or in Joe's case unpopularity contest - and he never got in just because he was my fighter... If he were Deno's or Glittermonkey's or Armageto's he would have got in).

Joe is among the most successful fighters of this season - 5 World Titles!!!
(alongside Dempsey and Jackson)

And he deserves his place...

Don't mention Louis and Dempsey in the same breath. Louis has not reached any of the heights that Dempsey has this season.

"Heights" you speak of...What heights?

Muhammad Ali and Rocky Marciano have both dominated the top two Commish's rankings since the start of the season...

And Louis vs Dempsey is 1-1 in the series.

By being far more dominant.

Dempsey is 15-6 in title fights.

Then you've got Louis. 9-6 and some of them wins were against the likes of Haye and Moore.

Plus you're a hom.
