The Super Six: Tale of the tape (Heavyweight)

Post by Crease »

In week 36 the six top fighters in the Heavyweight season will meet each other this week in three bouts of strength, speed, skill and stamina.

Before the start of the tournament, Don Krease Productions takes you on an in-depth of analysis of the six combatants title records, their records against top opposition and explains how each of their seasons has developed thus far.

And Don Krease himself, being a gambling man places odds on who will be the overrall victor in this clash of the titans. And so, in alphabetical order, here we go:

Image
Muhammad Ali
3 Time Word Champion: 2 WBC Titles and 1 WBA Title.
Boxing record: 29 wins (16 stoppages), 1 draw, 5 losses
Super Six record: 3 wins, 2 losses

The current number one ranked fighter in the Heavyweight Division, Muhammad Ali goes into The Super Six as the in-form fighter. The reigning WBC Champion has had a remarkable season thus far. At the beginning of the season, Ali achieved the accolade of being the Original WBC Champion - where on his way there, he defeated Super Six opposition in both of his title eliminators, beating Peter Jackson in the Semis and Joe Louis in the final.

But perhaps the highlight of Ali's season is his perfect Million Dollar Tournament record of seven victories in seven fights and ultimately acquiring the WBA Title's lineage, which he later reunified with the WBA Title itself- much to his credit.

Since the MDT, Ali has had two lengthy title reigns compromising of five WBA defences and three WBC defences up to Week 36. Ali is a tsunami to contend with and as such, it is predicted that Muhammad will fare well in The Super Six.
Odds: 3/1 - He must be a favourite, mustn't he?

Image
Jack Dempsey
5 Time Word Champion: 2 WBO Titles, 1 WBC Title, 1 WBA Title and 1 IBF Title
Boxing record: 26 wins (22 STOPPAGES), 2 drawS, 7 losses
Super Six record: 3 wins, 4 losses

Probably the most fearless fighter in the Heavyweight Division, Dempsey has fought all-comers this season. Jack's courage and grit has driven him into becoming the only fighter this season to complete "The Grand Slam" and hold all four major World Titles.

Jack had an excellent start to the season when he became the Original WBO Champion. His reign as WBO Champion is still currently the longest title reign of any of the Major Titles this season, with seven WBO Title defences - which is a tremendous achievement in itself.

Dempsey's season has been shrouded with glory and he has never been too far away from title contention - as can be evidenced by his five major title triumphs. The reigning WBO Champion is heavily fancied to do well in The Super Six.
Odds: 5/1 - Dempsey's definitely up there amongst the best.

Image
Larry Holmes
2 Time Word Champion: 1 WBA Title and 1 IBF Title.
Boxing record: 24 wins (11 stoppages), 2 draws, 9 losses
Super Six record: 1 wins, 1 loss

Holmes struggled for the first quarter of the Heavyweight season - as admitted by his Manager. But Larry recovered from his bleak start of five losses in his first eight fights and in the second quarter of the season he stabilised his record by powering to ten victories in eleven bouts.

But it was not until the third quarter of the season that Larry's season truly got underway by winning the WBA Title. After losing his title to Ali in his third defence, he quickly regrouped and became IBF Champion just six weeks later.

Larry is considered one of the outsiders in this tournament. Yet if Larry's record is any indiction - it shows that Holmes is powerfully resilient and will battle against the odds to overcome anyone is his path.
Odds: 15/1 - Holmes might struggle.

Image
Peter Jackson
5 Time Word Champion: 4 WBC Titles and 1 WBO Title.
Boxing record: Not determined by Manager.
Super Six record: 4 wins, 4 losses

Peter Jackson has had a wildly sucessful season in terms of Title victories by accumalting an impressive total of five World Titles. Peter has developed a love affair with the WBC Title by winning it on four separate occasions. Undoubtedly this landmark achievement WBC Title has greatly assisted helped him gain entry into The Super Six.

In the first half of the season, Jackson certainly proved himself as a man who excelled in the big occasions by ending the title reigns of Ali, Marciano and Louis - in that order, even before the halfway point of the season. And by Week 20, he the first 20 weeks he rocketed off ahead of everyone else in Title victories, which caused his Manager to predict that Peter would "end up as a 6 or 7 time World Champion".

Although this did not happen - Jackson's early good form caught up with him, and after securing his fifth World Title - he struggled badly and slipped fell badly down the rankings.

However, despite being a outside bet, if Jackson can regain his early good form and raise to the occasion - perhaps anything can happen.
Odds 12/1 - he's beat good opposition before, but can he do it again?

Image
Joe Louis
5 Time Word Champion: 2 WBO Titles, 2 IBF Titles and 1 WBA Title
Boxing record: 26 wins (20 stoppages), 2 draws, 7 losses
Super Six record: 1 win, 4 losses

Joe Louis had a good start to the season - getting to the WBC Title final eliminator before losing a hard-fought battle against an inspired Muhammad Ali.

Yet, throughout the season Joe Louis has been avoided in title fights which had led to his Manager claiming that he is "the most ducked man in the Sim". Super Six opposition such as Marciano and Jackson both ducked Joe Louis in different weeks, when he was mandatory challenger for their titles. Added to that, Rocky refused a fight with Joe back in the inital WBC Title Semi Final elinator.

Yet despite other fighters reluctance to fight him, Joe has forged out a successful career for himself, giving title shots to: Jack Johnson, Lennox Lewis, Gene Tunney & Peter Jackson accordingly. Yet despite this, Louis undercame criticism for his chosen title defences during The Open Weeks.

Louis has got a poor record against other top fighters, but Joe is confident that he can surpise his doubters and prove his critics wrong about him once and for all.
Odds: 10-1 - He has the potential and the ability but can he step up at this critical hour?

Image
Rocky Marciano

5 Time Word Champion: 2 WBC Titles, 1 WBO Title and 1 IBF Title
Boxing record: 30 wins (29 stoppages), 1 draw, 4 losses
Super Six record: 4 wins, 1 loss

Rocky Marciano has been ranked The Number One for the most weeks and numerically has the best record of this Heavyweight season. But Marciano's quality of opposition has been questionable for parts of the season as can be evidenced by the fact that fought 7 cpu fighters in the first quarter of the season.

Marciano's destructive ability is not in question - but his manager's ethics are. Rocky has been suspended from title fights for refusing mandatory challenges (twice) and even holding a title for 5 weeks, but only defending it once.

That said, despite his questionable antics, Marciano has been massively succesful, dispatching nearly everyone he has faced. But in recent weeks, Rocky has went through a bad patch, sufferring 3 successive losses in a row...

The only question can be, now that he's in the big time against the best possible opponents, will Rocky rampage through them as he did lesser mortals or will be become unstuck?
Odds 2-1 - who would bet against him?

Nice write up Crease, but you got two things wrong.

1) It's called the 'Super Elite Grand Finale Tournament'

b) You didn't give me any credit for coming up with the idea

Your enthusiasm is noted. Curiously you seem to lack objectivity about only two maybe three fighters. One being your own. I give Louis a much greater chance at closing the deal than you seem to give him. Although it may simply be a final acceptance of the reality of your limited management skills and their impact on your fighters potential. I also think you have underestimated Larry Holmes and his chances.

Your bitterness regarding Rocky is very very evident. Each fighter here has had some bad patches, and admittedly THE ROCK has shown his late in the season. But as you may not have noticed he easily dispensed with a top 10 fighter in this last week, and has effectively regained his form in the wake of his SSS conspiracy of losses. He has BY FAR the greatest record within this group. And we must admit we have casually avoided the three fighters that posed the greatest threat to him by design. Tunney, Holmes and Ali. Because we wanted to end up here. Holmes and Ali are fighters that hold the potential keys to his defeat. But it will be by no means a walk in the park for any of them. And the question will for them, will they be ready for THE ROCK?

Early in the season we tempered THE ROCK's schedule in order to build up his skill since we know his ace in the hole is power and aggressiveness. This is what wise management does. This is what Rocky needed. Now that THE ROCK knows he can be beat, he will be more formidable than ever as he balances his assumed power with his new gained wisdom. We feel he is ready for the final run now.

Kevo chose another path for his younger more skilled and cerebral fighter....a wise choice for that fighters career. He put him out there with the best early on, the right thing to do given his fighter's skillset and talent. Geto's always a top performer and he knows just what he's doing with Larry.

We forced your hand to drop the silly belts, and you instructed your fighter to pursue the Lonsdale title (in vain). An act that by your actions proved you have assessed and understood it's intrinsic and substantive value. Though you continue to give lip service in the opposite direction. Actions speak loudest my friend.

Louis on his own should be the odds on favorite, though your management puts him at a disadvantage. But unlike THE ROCK, Louis WAS able to come back and beat the tricky Max Scmeling. So stop holding your fighter back. I appeal to you one last time, hand Joe over to GBP.....we will give you Corbett in return (The soon to be WBU champion), and allow us to guide Joe into the GBP galaxy of successes. We guarantee he will win this entire event under our caring and thoughtful tutelage.

OR.....face elimination this week for your man at the hands of his opponent.

Completley false record of Mr Jackson's acheivments. Mr Jackson has beaten Dempsey, Loius,Ali and Marciano.

Im not sure if he has fought Holmes although if he has he would have beaten him also. :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:

Its bad enough that you try to steal the glory from Kevo and Buzz. But to actually cheat Jackson out of a win is uncalled for. :shame: :shame:

Although you may remember it Buzz; Louis never faced Schmeling in this, here sim..

If he had Schmeling would have put him in his place. It was Langford's potential nemesis Harry Wills who took out Schmeling. It's obvious that Sam Langford's training of Schmeling (before the he disappeared in mysterious circumstances) hindered Max in this fight.

And so, we shall look forward to a battle set in sim year 1931. A fight that has all the makings of the rings fight of that very year, and shall be spun out into a monumental trilogy. MAX will take on a guy who has defeated both ALI and the ROCK - The giant killing Young STRIBLING

I'm still confused. How can this "Super Six" thing contain the same fighters that are in the SEGFT? Aren't they all booked up?

Just tweaked the analysis there and corrected a few spelling mistakes (I was tired when I did the write-up).

Odds remain the same, place your bets.

Taking nothing away from Crease's efforts on posting that write-up....

Crease needs to accept the fact that his idea was rubbish and Kevo's idea was more appealing.

There is no lack of ojjectivity here, everything stated was reinforced with the facts that Marciano and Jackson choose to flee when Joe Louis was Mandatory Challenger.

As for Joe's chances, we can only give him so much credit. He's proven that he is in the top six of the season... But he has struggled against the other Elite fighters...

No that is what soft management does. And this admittance from you will be remembered when it comes to HOF voting time.

Good, then my chances of recognition will increase exponentially.

Many a good prospect were ruined by over aggressive matchmaking during the formatitve time period.

GBP brings people throught the process in order to insure top performance.

Our schedule was more difficult than your own, and we KO'd your man.

Credit where credit is due.

As always, we are forced to keep it real, as you will always attempt the ol' Crease Spin.

fuck away off Buzzington.

When did you ever seek out a fight with Ali or Dempsey?
Joe Louis had to try and try and try to make a fight with Marciano because Rocky just kept on running.

Nuff said.

Moot indeed, and we never ran....and we KO'd Dempsey as well.

We have openly stated that we have been a bit wary of Holmes, Tunney and Ali....for obvious reasons.

However they have not exactly hounded us for a fight either, as we pose just about the same threat their way.

No great attempt to avoid, and it happens that we have not crossed paths. But that is about to end as the cream rises.

I don't think Ali, Tunney or Holmes would say we ran. However we do feel you ran from us on some occasions.

But to both our credit....we ultimately made the fight, and what of that? Well, we flattened your man in less time than it takes to

make pancakes. And yet your complaning continues.

:oo
That is scandallous. You did nothing whatsoever to make the fight happen.
Don Krease did all "the heavy lifting" as it were. We chased you for a fight for (at least) five weeks before you agreed to it.

Any negotiations on your part were often counter-rpoductive. All you did was make conditions and stipulations which had to be met before the fight could happen.
And I agreed to every one to make the fight happen.

Then, much later... You reneged on your promise of an immediate rematch for Joe.
And it is for this very reason that Corbett will not get his rematch against Norton.

Your disingenuity knows NO LIMITS.....and talk about laughable!

You want a rematch? It's yours! We let you off the hook, and you were flat out happy about it. Barely a whimper. Because you were delighted not to have Joe be flattened again. We honestly felt we were being philanthropic in nature by not hauling Joe back in for another overhaul.

Your are a comic genius! And a Spinmeister Supreme!
