What johnny are you referring to?
Re: Easy start to a pro career
Indonesian Hasan Ambon had a crazy career. Of his nine fights, he fought 7 different fighters, 4 went onto win versions of a world title. Two fought for a version of a world title and the other was national champ. Not surprisingly he finished 0-9(2).

I only had a handful of amateur fights, and before the first one the advice i got was "Keep your hands up, jab and don't forget to f*cking move"johnnygreaves wrote:I was thinking they meant me, I learned all I needed about surviving & getting through in my first 6 to last my whole 78 fights . Re: Easy start to a pro career
My aim has always been 100 fights . I was an ok am. But got my education in gyms & on the unlicensed circuit. Knew I weren't great but also that I was tough as old boots . Never really hurt in 50 & was British champ. Got nothing from school & needed a way to feed my kids. Not much opportunity for a good job . Choose to use my body doing something I know. Fighting . I love my job. Even with the record. I'm dead proud.

Thanks mate! See that's the thing. Some lads think going in , standing in front & taking shots & being tuff makes them a good journeyman. I learned that that ain't the way. Make em work for it , but stay out of agg . I've no need to prove my chin anymore!

Not surprised he packed it in!Old bones Ian wrote:http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

Re: Easy start to a pro career
Who was his manager? Boris Karloff?
Re: Easy start to a pro career
Rafael Marquez fought Victor Rabanales in his debut... Rabanales had over 50 wins by then and was a former world champion...

I've just uploaded Jorge Suero fight against Duran , now i know sometimes Boxrec doesn't have all of someones fights , but if this is the guys debut what a place to make it, lets just say the crowd wasn't on his side!!

Re: Easy start to a pro career
Yohei Tobe has had a solid start to his career
Debut against the then Korean champion
Then a former world champion (Wandee Singwancha)
Then a 2 time title contender (Kohei Kono)
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
How about Marcela Eliana Acuna?
Debuted against Christy Martin...then faced Lucia Rijker
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
Akbar Mohammadpour (I think this is the premier contender for a male)
Debuted against Singsurat then faced Wonjongkam!
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
Danny Sutton
Faced wonjongkam then Panomroonglek Kaiyarn Hadaogym twice
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
Ego Yohan
Did the same as above but fought Panomroomglek first

Thanks for doing that mate. Suero actually didn't look too bad (for a debutant) until he got comprehensively sparked!Old bones Ian wrote:I've just uploaded Jorge Suero fight against Duran , now i know sometimes Boxrec doesn't have all of someones fights , but if this is the guys debut what a place to make it, lets just say the crowd wasn't on his side!!

Re: Easy start to a pro career
Random question Johnny, your second pro fight against Dean Harrison, how do you get a score of 55-50 from a 6 rounder? Surely a mistake on Boxrec's part.

Tho I have an inkling he's had more fights than that unless he has the worlds cruelest manager.

Never realised your 1st 2 fights were against Midlands based lads.
Anyway really admire your honesty and have seen you fight (mainly in the midlands) a fair few times and on TV and can honestly say your the best at what you do mate, always give the audience good value for money (can be a cheeky git sometimes, the home crowd loves a pantomine villian) and always give the lads you fight a proper education.
You may not have won any belts mate but dont think people dont recognise what you've done in the sport fella.

Re: Easy start to a pro career
Most other journeyman would disagree, I try my best to have a go but don't think having a war is gonna help my cause . I try to entertain. Some journeyman are like watching paint dry. It's a hard job to make em work, entertain but not get beaten up in the process
