Who wins fight fans?

Hey would you agree he would have won the first Tonna fight if it would have played out? Just curious. Not many saw those fights probably. It was hard for me to get those fights on tape having to get the "PAL" format switched to US>
Hagler definatly shook Minter a couple of times in the fight.silkov wrote:BoxBuzz wrote:Saw him fight Hagler, two Antuofermo fights, Harris, Tonna, and always liked him. Just a gut with Benn on this .

I haven't seen the Tonna bout but from what I've heard about it Tonna started very strong but Minter was in control and had Tonna wilting when a right hand from Tonna opened up Alans forehead. All Minters losses came mostly from cuts... even the Hagler fight was cuts. Its interesting that out of the two Minter had shook up Hagler with a punch but Hagler hadn't shaken Minter up. Thats about the only time I've seen Hagler stunned by a punch.
I thought Minter was robbed against Hamsho.
I think Minters biggest problem against Benn would be getting cut, but if he avoided that by boxing more like he did in the late 70s then I see him winning. I'd put Minter above Watson and Eubank... both of whom had an edge on Nigel.
Having said that I think Nigel was probably a better fighter at 168... which is another argument!...
I think Minter was shook up after he was cut and he couldnt see the punches coming. I'm not saying that Minter would have beaten Hagler but had he not fought the wrong fight (slugging it out) he would have lasted much longer.... perhaps even have gone the distance.topper123 wrote:Hagler definatly shook Minter a couple of times in the fight.silkov wrote:BoxBuzz wrote:Saw him fight Hagler, two Antuofermo fights, Harris, Tonna, and always liked him. Minter did catch Hagler with one shot, but there was only going to be one winner right from the start
yup, i think it's the second one i have got. may watch that again tonight.mugabi wrote:I saw ome of the Minter-Finnegan fights on ESPN Classic last year and it as an incredibly tense fierce war. Both had complete dominance at differing times a real barn burner.
I wouldnt neccesarily call Benn a "smarter" fighter . Minter was a very very smart boxer throughout his career all the way from his olympic medal up to undisputed middleweight champ. Just a shame on his biggest night against Hagler he threw all that out of the window. Benn was just far more physically gifted with power and speed plus he didnt cut so easily!Goodnight, Irene wrote:Gotta like Benn. Just a smarter, better fighter.
