Years later and I still think Williams take it. Have seen more footage of Williams also . . I think he earned the decision vs Terrell in their rematch, and Cleveland also shows a good beard and looks very impressive at a spent 38 years old, post shooting vs Chuvalo in one of his last fights. At a massive (and still much more cut than 99% of HWs today) 230 lbs, Williams still shows great reflexes and combination-punching ability. Hell, I'll take the 38 year old Williams over any HW today not named Klitschko!!

Still, his CV is (almost) thread-bare.

Is it not also true that Williams also found out prior to the fight with Ali (it may have even been in his dressingroom) that he was not going to get paid for that fight?

Another thing I heard about Big Cat Williams that during his operation to try and get that Traffic cops bullet out of his stomach the surgen commented that he had never seen such an incredable physique on a man before and that Williams abdominal muscules must have been at least 3" thick!

The story I read was that Bud Adams, oilman and owner of the Houston Oilers now the Tennessee Titans, attached Big Cat's purse for the Ali fight and Williams was notified of this in the dressing room the night of the fight.

Adams was a sometimes business partner of Hugh Benbow, Big Cat's manager, and apparently Adams had paid the medical bills when Williams got shot.

If this story is true, it must have been a shock for Williams to learn about it on such short notice. Williams and his wife were said to be hoping to buy a house from the purse.

Do you mean the 38 year old Williams or the prime Williams?

I'd favor any prime Lyle except the 1973 version.
