I've never heard this about Sibson beating Graham in the amateurs - Can anyone else confirm?icejack wrote:Yes he did,see him on tv doing it against members of the public.Graham was a great defensive fighter, but was never that popular (in london at least ,where in those days nearly all major fights took place) Looking back ,his chance at world titles came about 3 years to late.Yes he was still a good fighter but when he was a jnr.middleweight he was almost un fightable. In those days British promoters (basically Duff and Lawless where big fights were concerned ) couldnt or wouldnt compete with the Bob Arums ,Don Kings of this world so Graham was never in the shake up .Believe Tony Sibson beat him as a amateur.
Herol Graham

Re:
I just thought this was because Graham had fallen out with Ingle and Nelson had kept loyal and not joined Graham at another gym.Autobarn wrote:What's this feud between the Sheffield fighters? With Graham on one side & Johnny Nelson on the other, something like that?
Nelson also fell out with Graham over a spit bucket incident while Graham was in Nelson's corner.
Re:
The first part of your post is laughable. Watson (and bear in mind we didnt really see the 2-3 years that would have been his peak) was no where in the same league as Herol Graham...he was the kind of guy in 88-90 who Graham would have shut out and stopped in 10 or 11. Watson was battered and made to look very poor by McCallum. Graham pushed Mccallum right down to the wire and at the end it was a draw save for that 1 pt deducted for throwing Mccallum down. Eubanks did not want Graham and the Benn of the 80s would have been stopped by Graham, although i concede the SM version was better than Graham at his peak probably as although he may have been outboxed he just had more tools than Graham in speed and power and ferocity.walshb wrote:No way Graham beats Watson, Eubank or Benn. He loses by KO to Benn and Eubank. Graham just didn't hit hard enough or have the chin or heart to hang with Benn and Eubank and Watson was a better boxer. Graham was one dimensional and when pressure was put on him he usually folded.
Maybe he would have a chance V Hagler of 1987 as Marvin was useless at this stage, but a peak Hagler beats Graha in 3-4 one sided rds.
He was ahead in the Jackson fight, but he was far from dominating. He never hurt Jackson once, he was outboxing him but not putting any hurt on Julian and Jackson was far from a difficult guy to outbox
I agree though with your assesment of the Jackson fight Graham going after a murderous puncher like jackson in the corner was like a man trying to put icing on a cake that wasnt even baked yet....
Re: Herol Graham
eubank, benn and watson ran a country mile from bomber cos he`d have beaten all three,i suppose benn could have done a jackson on him before he gets stopped,it was his elusive style that eventually was his biggest enemy,no one wanted to fight him
to almost beat a technician like mccallum took some doing so anyone who disses him needs to get on youtube and watch him in action
