Everyone from 'Northern Ireland' has always been entitled to an Irish passport. Since the GFA both governments acknowledge that everyone from NI is equally entitled to be considered Irish, British or both and that neither takes precedence over the other until selected. Thems the real facts.

This has always genuinely confused me. I can completely accept the fact that Northern Ireland is definitely part of the United Kingdom, but as Great Britain is an island, I've never fully understood the notion that Northern Irish people can even be eligible for British nationality, since they are from the island of Ireland, not Britain. I understand that they are not nationals of the Republic of Ireland, but at the same time, how can they represent an island (Britain) that they are not from?

Which leads me to the bit I find most confusing. If Britain is an island and the United Kingdom is the sovereign nation, why do we even have a British nationality? Great Britain is not a recognised sovereign state. I know it would be difficult to find a sensible-sounding name for this nationality, since United Kingdomish would sound utterly ridiculous, but it seems logical, and would certainly clarify the Northern Irish situation, as they are clearly part of the nation of the United Kingdom and not the Republic of Ireland.

Sorry, just a little 2:30am rant.

Legally, under the British Nationality Act (which I think was 1981), all citizens of the United Kingdom ie Great Britain and Northern Ireland (and some other random places) are deemed to be British Citizens. As others have pointed out, there are then other laws whereby citizens of Northern Ireland and also choose Irish citizenship.

I agree calling us all British citizens is a bit miselading.

We in the British Isles are all British until we start losing then its "the unfortuneate Scotsman", "the unlucky Irishman" etc. Now I've noticed that British citizen Chisora is now being refered to as Zimbabwean in a few quarters including some forum posts. If he ever wins a world crown he'll revert to being as British as pie and mash.

I must admit I like the look of this fight actually when you think about it because you have got two guys with a crowd pleasing style who always give it their all in the ring and it is a good croads fight as well because Fury wants to push on for European and World title honours and Rogan is probably angling for a British title shot at least against the winner of David Price and Sam Sexton for the titles which Fury vacated for reasons that will continue to generate considerable debate on this forum, but I think Fury beat Rogan as he has too much power and is the younger and has been the more active of the two.

England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain, while the UK is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland - like you say, and then the whole lot are British Isles.

So the only difference is between British and Great British, but we don't bother with the latter.

As for the fight, it won't be pretty, but it should be engaging.
