To be fair i think a fair few people didnt get to watch the fight because it was on allegedly. I know in recent interview floyd has openly said he is taking more risks because its what the fans want to see. If PBF wanted to play it safe and box on the defensive all night he could and i cant see many people getting to him.

Quite incredible, but rather than thinking he's slowing down I tend to think he actually held Cotto up in there.

I think there was something different about Mayweather in that fight last night, Im not sure if he has physically declined or if he has tried to adapt his style before he does naturally lose some of his best skills. Mayweather has never cared what others have thought about him so would he change his style to please the fans? I don't think so. If FMJ believed he could work on the back foot cruising to shut out decisions he would still do it and lets be honest, we would still watch it. Personally i think FMJ has started using different tactics where he stands and fights more so that he isn't as dependent on his reflexes etc.

I'm a huge fan of Mayweather and i'm still of the opinion that he would beat Pacquiao reasonably comfortably. It was strange to see him on the stool with his nose bloodied and at times struggling to catch a breath but I see that as more of a reason to praise Cotto than to discredit Floyd.

As Mayweather says himself, It's a contact sport. :bag:

I too had a look on here after the fight and was surprised there was no thread, I was to tired to start one, anyway, Floyd was very good IMO, he could of made it easier but decided not to, when he boxed from the centre of the ring he looked worlds apart, i thought the commenters loved Floyd a little to much and I thought larry merchant was abit to harsh, floyds still the best in the world by far and I would like him fight paquio, khan and canelo in that order ! If he beats all 3 he will go down as a all time great !
By the way I thought canelo has abit to learn but a lot more to give, looking forward to his next fight already ! Think he would get Cotto out of there earlier then paquio did and send out a statement !

He has the skill to outbox most, but finds it more difficult to control them, cause even shots that hit arms can have an affect at 154.

He's had two fights at 154, against geniune 154 lbs fighters.... and he has ha relative struggles (by Floyd's standards) in both. It might be that I am doing DLH and Cotto a disservice, perhaps they have the skill set to give Floyd problems at 147 also (providing they make the weight well) - these are among his two best opponents P4P also.

I said in my prediction, and generally got criticised for it, that Cotto at 154 is a tougher ask for Floyd than Manny at 140/147.... I still think that is the case.
Why did Cotto ask Margarito for a 150 CW in the rematch if 154 is his best weight?

The forum was strangely quiet afterwards, I didn't want to start a thread incase the convo about the fight had disappeared into another thread.

Mayweather still p4p number one in my eyes anyway!

Aint sure really, perhaps he thought Margarito needed to drain to make 150 now. He's been weighing on the limit in all his 154 lbs fights.

My post was more about someone weighing 154 hitting Floyd and using their strength on Floyd, more than about what is Cotto's best weight.

And id imagine Cotto would have beeb nearer 160?
If Floyd was 147 on the night then if i was him id defo avoid Martinez, that would be a huge difference on the night if it went ahead.

Good fight but not a great one. Mayweather has proved yet again he belongs to an elite class. I enjoyed the Mosley/Alvarez fight as well. Mosley was a good test for Alvarez and as good as he is, I cant see him beating Mayweather. Pac Man should be Mayweathers next opponent. If he isnt why not, its the fight the fans want to see.

I collected 211 scores this week for my fightscorecollector blog http://fightscorecollector.blogspot.com cheers to john shep for letting me do this on boxrec.

198 had Mayweather winning , most common scores 115-113 , 116-112 and 117-111

8 had Cotto winning (none from Boxrec )

5 had the fight a draw (none again from boxrec)

i was able to collect 27 press scores from both sides of the Atlantic. Of this 26 had Mayweather winning but this time by wider margins 116-112 , 117-111 - not many 115-113s , only 1 member of the press Mr Suge Green of the excellent onthegrind boxing radio scored the fight a draw at 114-114.

My scorecard read 115-113 Mayweather and i was able to get 11 scores on Boxrec who all thought Mayweather won.

Thanks for all your scores and please check out the blog as i have tried to explain a wee bit how i scored the fight

I had it a comfortable Mayweather win, I can't see how anyone got near Cotto winning or a draw, he had his successes but it's very difficult to give him more than 4 rounds even being generous to him.

I disagree with Floyd that there's no one out there for him. Martinez and Pac fights need to be made.
Martinez is a MW. Floyd weighed 147lbs in the ring against Cotto. Martinez should concentrate on fighting at his weight, not a guy who two divisions below him.

Floyd-Pacquiao does need to happen. Mayweather wins pretty comfortably in my opinion.

Strange thing is that its the same people (on other forums) who discredit Mayweathers wins over Marquez and Hatton for being so called smaller opponents who seem to think Martinez is a good match up.

Id go nowhere near Martinez if i was in his shoes.

King Geedorah wrote:Floyd battered him seemingly at will and I felt that the 2 of the 3 or 4 he dropped were by his own doing as he snatched a breather. There was one point, think it was the 7th or 9th, where there was zero pop on Floyd's shots and my heart was in my mouth, but it looked like he was just cruising, which is amazing when you consider how good Cotto is at that weight.

I agree with the guys in the studio, though, as he is slowing with each fight. Floyd can't punch in more than 2-3s anymore, which is a shame as he can put his shots together. The other problem is that he didn't hit with enough power to stop Cotto, he probably figured this out by the 5th and just went for the decision win, although a left through the middle late hurt Miguel. Maybe his hands were feeling it as the rounds ticked on?

There were a few times when shots went in that surprised Mayweather, that was the major concern for me as he usually times the incoming fire. Naturally, there's a bit of fade and wear and tear so it sounds like nit-picking, but there are signs that he isn't the force he once was.

Despite all this, he'll stand Manny on his head based on recent performances. Especially if Manny-Bradley turnes into the type of god awful maul that I'm expecting and once again shows that Pacman is leagues below Mayweather when it comes to technique and the fundamentals.

Cotto performed well an' all, I thought he'd get snotted about early and take a knee in the 10th to prompt the ref to stop it, but he gritted it out and gave himself a little lift at just the right times. Ironically he looked OK when he tried to box Floyd, but adopting that style tired him as he had to be super concentrated, he looked more at ease when cutting the distance and putting the pressure on.

Mayweather cops a lot of shit, but he took on a reinvigorated guy who is finally fighting at his optimum weight and barely dropped a round unless he wanted to.

HBO need to get someone else to interview him post-fight though. Merchant sees these interview spots as the latest chapters in the Larry Merchant show and his flyaway tuft of hair was distracting, especially at 6am in the morning.

Loved the fight, Cotto is a terrific fighter and it was great to see him push Mayweather and force the best out of him, its the kind of performance Mayweather needed.

I really hope he follows this win up with the winner of Pacquiao/Bradley, or Alvarez. Other than those two possible fights, of interest there only remains Martinez, and as Floyd stepped in the ring on Saturday night apparently weighing only 147lbs, that fight seems very unlikely to happen.

Mayweather isn't getting any younger and is on the way to retirement soon; he has had a hard fought career against some of the very best boxing has produced, just look through his record across the weights and he has withstood every test. Like him or loath him (personally I find him somewhat annoying but this aside), he truly is on his way to becoming one of the greatest boxers of all time. Adding this bout with Cotto, where he was never in danger and always in control, a supreme technical win over an opponent like Cotto just sums him up in a nutshell. It's a testament to Mayweather that we can only speculate or try to pick out any slight weaknesses he may of showed against a fighter like Cotto; when Cotto has also stopped so many worthy opponents and boxed at a top level for years now.

I see a couple of major name fights in his future, and of course I hope for the one super fight we all want to see with Pac Man and after that I think he'll hang up his gloves with pride and so he would deserve to.
