Alex Arthur can't shake off Limmond

Post by jomothepure »

What a bloody awful cringing title. Anyhow, this did come from the Daily Mail, so that's my excuse.

Basically they reported yesterday that Arthur tried to get out of a rematch with Limmond (who is EBU mandatory) by offering to ditch his Brittish title and give Limmond a shot at that rather than the two fight again.

The Limmond camp did not accept the offer.

All due respect to Limmond, as he has improved a great deal after losing to Arthur, but then so has Arthur after losing to Gomez, and I can't see a very different result than the last time if this goes ahead. It would be one of the more comfortable EBU defences Arthur will get IMO.

(Don't think this will be PPV either somehow)

I have much more time for Arthur since he responded to the Gomez loss, and trying to get out of a financially viable but unappetising rematch does him plenty of favours.

I personally think Arthur has improved more so than Limond.

I don't want to see Arthur-Limond II either, Arthur would just do the job quicker than before IMO Limond is an improved fighter but i don't think he will have the style or the techique to beat Arthur. But if Arthur wants to retain his European title i think he should get on with the job and fight Limond again.

Strength (or lack of it) will always be Limond's problem. I think Docherty will beat him aswell.

Incidently, any news on the former Commonwealth champion. Its been a while since the Arthur fight.

Just put the fight on an undercard Arthur can't expect to be the main event all the time.

Arthur should have one voluntary defence then if Limond still no 1 they should fight.
Arthur will probably win in about 6 but he cant toss thhe british belt aside.

I'm not sure how Limond has got this "challenger" position, I know he has been a long time EU title holder and this can install you in that position (i.e. Sprott). However, surely he has to fight some eliminator bout first.

How about the loser of Tontchev vs Nagy against Limond as chief support to an Arthur defence, the winner of that fight will definately deserve to fight Arthur.

For me, it just screams out for Arthur-Nagy (EBU) and Limmond-Doc (vacant British.)

Agree with Stu, despite holding the EU title, Limmond surely shouldn't be the mandatory, given the sound loss to Arthur not in all that distant past. It would be Nagy, of course, but he's walking round with the IBC bauble, which makes him inneligable.

I guess Arthur will just have to lump this one, wait to see if Nagy wins too, and then see whether he wants to fight Arthur or Barrios (Nagy being the WBO #1)

Nagy at any rate is the fiercest challenge Arthur needs/will get/should get in Europe at the moment

Nagy can for EBU or EU titles because he holds the IBC title.

It of course should be CANT.

You cant box in a EBU sanctioned fight if you hold a world title and its doesnt matter how insignificant it is.

IBC, its apparently a world title. Much like the IBA, IBO, WBF, WBU versions. International Boxing Council (at a guess).

No world champion can fight for the EU or EBU titles regardless of the quality of belt.

surely nagy would give it up for a euro title shot though.

arthur gomez 2 would be a good voluntary defence wouldn't it. :TU: gomez would starve himself for another shot at arthur.

No doubt he'll ditch the IBC soon. As I say It's now just a question of whether he wants the EBU or WBO.

I'm quite surprised the EBU still rank Gomez at SF. I suppose until he fights again at a higher weight they can't put him anywhere else.

But Gomez did say he could only fight Arthur at a higher weight didn't he? Was it at the Sinitsin fight?

That was the fight I was thinking about when I said about a potential Arthur vs Voluntary and Limond vs Nagy/Tontchev loser. The minute I posted that, I thought.... Gomez.

I'm a Limond fan but Arthur is still way too strong for him in my opinion.

Talking to myself here, but just read on Teletext that Docherty will be on the Anderson vs Okine bill. He did contemplate retirment.

The fake belts go down a storm in Hungary. I saw an Erdei fight where they had a massive presentation ceremony with some WBO Intercontinental trinket.

After his last fight at his ringside interview I thought Limond said he was in no rush to fight Arthur again, or words to that effect?

Docherty may be moving down to feather:

Manager Tommy Gilmour said: "It will be his choice whether he wants to go for superfeatherweight or featherweight."

Docherty considered giving up boxing after his ninth-round defeat in April but will make his return at Fife Ice Arena.

"This fight will be made around 9st 6lbs, although we don't have an opponent yet," said Gilmour.

"The plan would be to try to give Craig a fight every six weeks and bring his weight down a pound or two until he gets to where he wants to be.
